Services held for Gayl Andrea Menholt Dahl
Gayl Andrea Menholt Dahl, 95, of Gonvick, MN, passed away on Friday, April 10, 2015, at the Good Samaritan Center in Clearbrook, MN, where she had resided for over two years.
Funeral services were held at Samhold Lutheran Church in Gonvick, MN on Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. with the Reverend Kris Snyder officiating. Per Gayl's wishes, cremation has taken place. Inurnment will be at the Samhold Lutheran Cemetery in Gonvick, MN.
Gayl was born on Feb. 10, 1920, at Powers Lake, ND, to Lillian and Peter Menholt. She was the youngest of six children and attended grade school in a one room country schoolhouse near the Menholt farm home at rural Powers Lake. She moved to Minnesota in 1939, where she met her future husband, Gilman. They were married in Gonvick in 1940, and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1990. Their daughter Doris, the apple of their eye, was born on April 26, 1942, and died tragically on November 27, 2012. Gayl's work was primarily in the restaurant business. She was a waitress and a cook, and for a short time she owned the Sunflower Café in Gonvick. Gayl was a real people person and enjoyed the comeraderie of the regulars, as well as the newcomers. Her hobbies included camping and fishing with Gilman and Dory, playing cards and bingo, working crossword puzzles, dancing, going to the casino and sharing a cup of coffee with a friend. She was an active member of Samhold Ladies Group.
She is survived by loving nieces, nephews and their spouses: Leatha and Jim Campbell, Floyd and Carmen Lien, Elaine and Delford Martinson, Laurel and Juan Wilmoth, Laures and Bob Helseth, Donald Lien and Wendell Lien, Marlis and Bill Ziegler, Mavis Jones, Jane and Gene Determan, Lois and Conrad Krabbenhoft, Debbie and Rick Peterson, Richard and Cindy Menholt, Darrel and Betty Menholt, Gary and Sharon Olson, Cindy and David Sovde, Kevin Stenberg, Donna and Glen Coucces and Betty Hughes. sisters-in-law: Ethel Menholt, Esther Olson, Yvonne Dahl, Phyllis Wilcox, and a special sister-in-law and aunt, Della Hughes. Also special friends Eileen Lien and Norma Erickson.
She was preceded in death by her husband Gilman, and daughter, Doris, as well as her parents and five siblings, Donald, Carl, Eddie, Marie and Ann. Also three nephews and a niece.
The family of Gayl would like to thank the entire staff of the Good Samaritan Center for the loving care which she received while she was a resident at their facility.
