Vocal Solo Contest in Crookston January 24th

Ten students from Red Lake County Central in grades 10-12 competed at Vocal Solo Contest Wednesday, January 24 at Crookston High School. RLCC music teacher Mrs. Patty Mickleson and pianist Mrs. Peggy Miller had worked with the students over a number of months, preparing them for the contest.
The contest was judged and there are three possible ratings to receive. The Superior Rating included scores 35-40 and two stars. The next rating was the Excellent Rating, ranging from 28-34 and one star. The final rating was the Good Rating and it included scores 22-27.
The Superior Rating placer with the highest ranking was Sydney Melby with a perfect 40. Abby Walton and Jayden Iverson each placed with 36, and Nick Pahlen and Kara Longtin each placed with 35.
Adrianne Jones, Allison Aakhus, and Phillip Sorenson placed in the Excellent Rating category, each with close scores of 34. David Clifton and Sidney Olson also placed in the Excellent category, Clifton with a 33 and Olson with a 32.
According to Mrs. Mickelson, “This was the first year that Allison and Jayden competed, and everyone placed very close to or in the Superior Rating category. Everyone did a ‘superior’ job!”
