Storm ends Bears football season

The Stephen-Argyle Storm ended the Clearbrook-Gonvick Bear football season. The game played on the Bears home field as they claimed the District Title over the same team by a score of 14-3 on their home field on October 8. A second win was not to be as the Storm won 20-0 for the right to go on to the semifinal round of the Minnesota Section 8 9-man high school football playoffs on Thursday, October 22 at 3:00 p.m. at the Fargo Dome. They will meet Kittson County Central who was a 19 to 12 winner over Kelliher-Northome.
The first half was back and forth from one end to the other as the Bears had the ball and then the Storm but neighter team could get it into the end zone. Twice in the first half the Bears had the football inside the Storm 10-yard line but turned the ball over on downs. The Bears also had the ball on the seven yard line with first and goal to go but couldn’t score as time expired for the half.
The Storm scored with 3:55 left in the third quarter when quarterback Christopher McGlynn went up the middle on a fourth and goal touchdown.  Sophomore running back Kyler Szczepanski set up the drive with a 35-yard run up the middle to the 8-yard line. The Bears were still within striking distance of the Storm but on the kick-off to the Bears they fumbled and Jordan Urbaniak recovered on the Bears 19 yard line to set up the next touchdown. Tom Gryskiewicz ran it 17 yards and Justin Yutrzenka went on a one-yard run. Within one minute and 47 seconds the Storm had scored two touchdown to lead 14-0.
Sam Lavin caried the ball 21 times for 138 yards and completed six passes for 81 yards.
Justin Yutrzenka rushed for 143 yards on 36 carries and Tom Gryskiewicz had 79 rushes on 10 carries for the Storm. Quarterback Christopher McGlynn completed 3 passes for 31 yards including a 14 yarder to Jacob Sundby for the final score.
Stephen-Argyle takes a 8-2 record into the section championship on Thursday, October 22 at the Fargo Dome. Clearbrook-Gonvick closed with a 7-3 record.
