Chargers lose to Nevis last Thursday

Last Thursday, October 12th, the Chargers hosted Nevis on the field in Grygla for Parent’s Night. GG lost 6-26.

Dylan Manderud also threw 1 first half interception that set up a touchdown.

Comments: I thought we battled and competed against another state ranked program, but again, we didn’t get rewarded for our effort. We had a very good first half - only down 14-6. In the third quarter we gave up a big running play to set up their next touchdown. Then Nevis came up with a 65 yard fumble recovery to seal the game.

We had a couple untimely injuries during the 3rd quarter, which caused some break downs. Our next man up “motto” saw a great job done by Aaron and Andy Jones, Blake Passa and Cory Cleven. I’m very proud of how our team responded to adversity.

On the offensive side, we rushed the ball effectively as a ball control offense, putting up 252 yards. But our passing game needs to compliment the ground game. Once trailing, we were very unproductive against the Tiger’s defensive scheme. This is an area we need to improve on moving forward.

Defense and Special Teams played well. We had two fumble recoveries and two interceptions, as well as a couple 4th and short stops by our defensive line. Our secondary, led by Kaleb Sjulestad, played phenomenal - all but shutting down Nevis’ top ranked passing offense. Hudson McMillin and Jaden Kiesow each had key interceptions.

We are looking to keep the strong effort going and get rewarded with a win this Tuesday night vs. NCE/Ulen-Hitterdahl standing at the top of section 6 with only one loss to the season.
