Services for William Louis Carlson

William Louis Carlson, 75, of Thief River Falls, MN passed away on Saturday, June 15, 2019 at the Veterans Hospital in Fargo, ND.

 

Funeral service will be at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN.  Burial will be at Espelie Cemetery, rural Grygla. Military honors will be provided by Ecklund-Holmstrom American Legion Post 117, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2793 and Minnesota Army National Guard Honor Guard.

 

Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN.

 

William Louis Carlson was born May 19, 1944 at Grygla, MN, the son of Clarence Harold and Florence Gertrude (Hildreth) Carlson.  He was baptized in the German Lutheran faith. Bill attended grade school in Grygla and graduated Goodridge High School in 1962.

 

On February 12, 1963, Bill entered the United States Army and served his country until his Honorable Discharge on February 6, 1966.  During his service he earned a Vietnam Service Medal, an Expert Rifle Medal and Good Conduct Medal.

 

Bill was united in marriage to Delaine Hauck and he gained two step-daughters: Mona and Lisa. Their relationship ended after a few years of marriage.

 

Bill was united in marriage to Edna Fredricks in 1980.  He gained 3 step-children: Lori, Dean and Darin Fredricks.  Quite a few years later their relationship ended.

 

He held membership in the Union 49er’s as a heavy equipment operator.  He worked in that capacity in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, retiring in 1999.  While living in Minneapolis, he had a hobby farm.   In June of 2011, William moved to Bemidji, MN.

 

William liked to fish, hunt and also enjoyed working on Jigsaw puzzles.

 

Survivors include his step-children; sister Renee Bowman, Grygla, MN, brothers, James (Marianne) Carlson, Battle Lake, MN and Rodney (Patty) Carlson, Grygla, MN; sister-in-law Mary Carlson, Grygla, MN and several nieces and nephews, great nieces, nephews and cousins.

 

Preceded in death by parents and brother, Clarence Jr.; and step-son, Darin Fredricks.
