Services for Timothy C. “Bunny” Anderson
Timothy C. “Bunny” Anderson, age 59, of Erskine, MN, died Monday, January 28, 2019, at his home.
Timothy Charles, the son of Sidney and Lorraine (Stai) Anderson, was born on February 15, 1959 in Fosston, MN. He was baptized and confirmed his faith at Calvary Lutheran Church in Winger, MN. He grew up in Winger and attended school in McIntosh. As a teenager, Tim was active with various sports and high school events. During this time, he lovingly earned the nickname, Bunny. In April of 1977, one month before his high school graduation, Tim was involved in an accident while working at the local elevator, that changed his life forever. In spite of quadriplegia, Bun maintained a positive attitude and had a great zest for life. After becoming familiar with life in a wheelchair, he obtained a driver’s license and then earned a degree at the University of North Dakota. He returned to Winger and began designing his home. In 1990, construction of “Bun Manor” was complete, and Tim lived out his days on the shores of Union Lake. The Manor was the family gathering spot for reunions during the summer and holidays. Many of his friends also enjoyed the scene and setting over the years, and a pontoon ride was always a fan favorite. Bunny found great pleasure in having area nursing home residents join him in picnics and boat rides. Often accompanying him were his faithful canine companions, Snooper and Chewy. There are many stories of his winter trips to faraway places such as Aruba, Australia, Barbados, Brazil, Hawaii and New Zealand to name a few. Bun was an active member of the Winger community and contributed greatly to the causes in which he believed. He was a lifetime member of Calvary Lutheran where he served as council president for several years. Bun was a 34-year Winger Lions member and was recognized in 2015 with the Inspiration Award. In 2008, he was presented with the Melvin Jones Award – a national award representing the highest form of recognition for those who embody the humanitarian ideas consistent with the nature and purpose of Lionism. At the local club level, Bun served as Lions President, Tail Twister and was a perennial seller of the most raffle tickets. He was most proud of his service to the community as the Planning Committee President for the 2004 Winger Centennial – a three-day celebration that brought many hundreds of participants to town. His passion for the Winger community, his generous spirit, and his contagious smile will be greatly missed by his many dear friends and family members.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Lorraine and Sidney Anderson, as well as nephew, David Schulz. The following family members survive him: brother, Greg (Linda) Anderson of Milaca, MN; three sisters: Vicki (Jim) Thune of Des Moines, IA, Linda (Odney) Hegrenes of Brooklyn Park, MN, and Judy (Lloyd) Schulz of Moorhead, MN; three nieces: Megan (Adam) Reed of Cloquet, MN, Jessica (Zach) Hilton of Des Moines, IA, and Laura (Craig) Kotsmith of Brainerd, MN; three nephews: Tom (Jessica) Anderson of Milaca, MN, Tory Hegrenes of Key West, FL, and Doug Schulz of Frazee, MN; seven grandnieces; and, seven grandnephews. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you donate memorials in memory of Tim to the charity of your choice.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, February 9, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. at Calvary Lutheran Church, Winger, MN. Visitation will also take place at Calvary Lutheran Church, Friday, February 8, 2019, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service beginning at 6:30 p.m. Inurnment will be held at the Calvary Lutheran Cemetery at a later date.
