Roger Oscar Henningsgaard, age 94, from Bloomington, Minnesota peacefully passed away on Saturday October 7, 2023. Roger was born on May 31, 1929 to Oscar and Sophie Henningsgaard on the family farm by Alexandria, Minnesota. He graduated from Alexandria High School in 1947. On August 23, 1953 he married Hattie Darlene Knudson in McIntosh, Minnesota. They were married for 66 wonderful years.
Roger graduated from the Minnesota School of Business and Metropolitan State University. He worked for Minnegasco (CenterPoint Energy) for 41 years as a Manager and Superintendent. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1950 to 1952 in Fort Bliss, Texas. Roger had a strong sense of duty and love of country, always flying the American flag outside his house. Roger loved spending time with family and friends at home in Bloomington and at the lake cabin in Alexandria. He enjoyed writing and wrote about family memories and his Norwegian and Swedish heritage.
Roger and Darlene moved to Bloomington in 1956 and have lived there ever since. Roger was very active in his children's lives and in the community and church. He was on the Bloomington Park and Recreation Commission, active in the Nine Mile Elementary PTA, Feed My Starving Children, Loaves and Fishes, 4-H Club, Boy Scouts, BAA Coach, and Christ the King Lutheran Church where he served as President of the Congregation.
Roger was preceded in death by parents Oscar and Sophie Henningsgaard, wife Darlene, brother Russell (Evelyn), sister Vivian Dougherty, sister Joyce Miller (Orville), brother-in-law James Messelt, sister-in-law Crystal Dougherty. He is survived by children Kari (Craig) Bollum, David (Cheryl), Bruce (Kate); grandchildren Matthew (Alycia Ketterman), Samuel, Claire (Aaron) Stordahl, Ellen (Tony Sappanos) Henningsgaard, Britta (Chase) Miller, Linnea (Dylan Ellingboe) Bollum; great grandchildren Sutton and Dansby Miller. He is also survived by sister Joann (Dan) Hill, brother-in-law Keith Dougherty, and sister-in-law's Sharon Messelt and Lois Henningsgaard.
The celebration of Roger's life will be held on Thursday October 12, 2023 at Christ The King Lutheran Church, 8600 Fremont Avenue South, Bloomington, MN 55420. Visitation at 9:30 am with a service at 11 am. The service will be live streamed from the church website; CTKB.org
