Services for Norman K. Anderson,

Norman K. Anderson, 95, of rural Leonard left his earthly home peacefully on June 11th, 2022. He was born in Shevlin on May 4th of 1927 to Peter and Inger (Liane) Anderson. He grew up in the Leonard area and was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church before being drafted into the U.S. Army where he served in Panama in the aftermath of WWII.
He married Sylvia Engebretson in December 1954 of which the union produced four daughters. They lived in Halma and Bagley Minnesota before returning to the Leonard area in 1958 where he farmed. He purchased additional property and cut wood from the land to have sawn before erecting a dairy barn in 1969. He had a herd of Holstein cattle that he milked as a Land O’ Lakes dairy farmer until 1987. Many weekend afternoons were spent with the whole extended family putting up square bales or picking rocks.
After getting out of dairying he transitioned to beef cattle and round bales. He was passionate about growing crops and gardens, particularly raspberries, and most importantly—potatoes. He was an early adopter of cross-country snowmobiling, an avid prankster, and in his late years he enjoyed tinkering with tractors and woodworking.
He loved a lot of things, in no particular order: The Clearwater County Fair, The Big Iron Farm Show in Fargo, the Lake Itasca Regional Pioneer Farmer’s Reunion, Hank Williams, Hee Haw, candy, and enjoying his many relatives and grandchildren. He had no qualms about operating a chainsaw or using the tractor and a ladder to climb on the roof of his house even after his 90th birthday.
He was a member of the Leonard Creamery Board, Clearbrook Legion, and Clearwater County Historical Society.
He was a great father and grandfather who would do anything to help out a friend or relative.
Norman was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia, his parents; sisters, Tillie Swelland, Esther Dawes, and Ione Andring.
He is survived by his four daughters, seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; as well as sisters Irene Peterson and Lillie Woosley.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to Butch, Woody, Kelly, Shannon, and Sanford Hospice.
A memorial service will be held at the farm 3pm on Saturday, June 25th. The Cease Family Funeral Home of Bagley assisted the family with arrangements.
