Lucille Aileen Brtek was born November 30, 1939, at the family farmhouse in rural Winger, Minnesota, the daughter of Theodore and Margaret (Johnson) Roe. She married Wilfred Brtek. They lived in Minneapolis and Chicago before settling just outside of Fosston. Lucy spent the last 20 years living on the Roe family farm.
Lucy raised five children, Richard (Bette), Blaine, MN; Billy, Bagley, MN; Michelle (Greg) Gagner, Mentor, MN; Danny (Angie), Winger, MN; Amy (Dana) Dullum, Minnetrista, MN. She was blessed with 17 grandchildren and 9 (soon 10) great grandchildren.
She enjoyed spending time with her friends and family welcoming them with a fresh pot of coffee. She also enjoyed playing cards and driving the countryside scouring the landscape for chokecherries, flowers and wildlife. Her beautiful flowers were a sight as you drove into her yard. She loved feeding her birds and squirrels and watching their antics from her window and from her beautiful deck. She spent many years dealing blackjack at the Shooting Star Casino, making many friends along the way (including a few famous ones).
Lucy enjoyed making big meals, baking fresh bread and homemade donuts for her family and friends, and enjoying those meals and treats, sharing stories and many laughs (and who could forget the Winger Whammie!) Lucy participated in weekly senior meals to stay in touch with her community. She was a dedicated member of Calvary Church Auxiliary, contributing in many many ways. Lucy became fast friends with her Amish neighbors and loved learning and sharing about their customs. When neighbors and friends needed a helping hand, Lucy was always there, even if it meant driving them to Minneapolis. Lucy was a loyal friend and spent her time making sure those in nursing homes and hospitals were visited and felt special. She loved auction sales and garage sales and always came home with a treasure. Her high energy and positive attitude were a force.
Lucy passed away peacefully on May 8, 2019, at the age of 79, and will live lovingly in the hearts of those she left behind.
She is survived by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, her sisters Barbara Bridges of Tucson, AZ, Elaine (Dave) Hendrickson of Minnetonka, MN, and Judy Rolandson of Tuscon, AZ, and many special nieces and nephews all over the country.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother-in-law, Jim Bridges. Blessed be her memory.
