Services for Lorina S. Vettleson
Lorina S. Vettleson 92 of Oklee, MN passed away on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at Pioneer Memorial Care Center at Erskine, MN.
Funeral Service will be held 11:00 AM Friday, October 12, 2018 at Oak Park Lutheran Church, rural Oklee, MN with Rev. Jeffery Merseth officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 11, 2018 5 – 8 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service at Oak Park Lutheran Church, rural Oklee, MN. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to the funeral at Oak Park Lutheran Church.
Lorina Selvina Torske was born September 28, 1926 on a farm in Mayfield Township, Pennington County, MN the daughter of Henry and Inga (Warstad) Torske. She was baptized into the Lutheran faith and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church in Garnes Township, rural Oklee, MN. She attended country school in Garnes Township and graduated from Oklee High School in 1944.
Following school, Lorina moved to Thief River Falls, MN where she worked at the Fountain Café. At a dance that summer in Oklee, Lorina met her future husband, Herbert Vettleson Sr. The couple was married on June 1, 1946 at the Lutheran parsonage in Oklee by Rev. Lie. They made their home on a farm in Deer Park Township, Pennington County, MN. They raised their five sons, Herb Jr., Louis, Loren, Glen and Alan. Their farm consisted of dairy and beef cattle, chickens, small grains and hay.
Lorina enjoyed her days as a homemaker raising her family. She liked her flower garden, vegetable garden and was an excellent cook. She always had fresh bread, canned sauces, vegetables, homemade cheese buns, chocolate chip cookies and in her spare time enjoyed embroidery. Lorina was a gentle, kind woman who dearly loved her kids and grandkids.
She was a member of Oak Park Lutheran Church where she was active with the Ladies Aid.
Survivors include her five sons, Herb (Janice) Vettleson, Jr., Thief River Falls, Louis (Linda) Vettleson, Thief River Falls, Loren (Vicky) Vettleson, Trail, MN, Glen (Annette) Vettleson, Oklee and Alan (Christine) Vettleson, Oklee; grandchildren, Sheri, Cindy, Will, Jared, Joey, Lisa, Travis, Trent, Heidi, Thor, Shane, Laura, Jessica, Seth, Susan, Holly and Matthew; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Shirley Vettleson, Thief River Falls; and many other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Herbert on July 1, 1980; brother, Alton Torske; brothers-in-law, Wilton Vettleson, Myrl Vettleson, Lealand Vettleson, Walter Vettleson and Joseph Vettleson; sister-in-law, Myrtle Howard; and her parents.
