With great sadness the family of Leo Peter Pletschett announces his passing on Thursday June 17, 2021 at the age of 78, at Essentia Health in Fosston, MN.
Leo was born at the Fosston Hospital on September 28, 1942, to Charles and Esther (Godtland) Pletschett. He graduated in 1960 from the Gonvick-Trail High School and was enlisted into the Service until 1963. After his time in the service he moved to Wheaton, Illinois where he worked for S&S Trucking in Roselle, IL and then in 1967 worked as a manager at DesPlaines Lumber.
On June 12, 1965 he married Kay Johnson in Winfield, Illinois and proceeded to have three children, Vonda, Jeff, and Scott. In 1981 they moved to Gonvick, MN where they took over Sportsman Lodge at Pine Lake until 2000 and Shorty’s Place of Gully until 2008.
Leo had a passion for hunting and shared that with his kids and grandchildren. If he wasn’t cleaning or working on his lawn you could find him playing Smear at Shorty’s. He enjoyed walking his youngest child Ellie (the family dog), spending time with family, and never passed up on a good prank. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, and Clearwater Trail Blazers.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Kay; Children Vonda Gunderson (Jason), Galesburg, ND; Jeff (Jenny) Pletschett, Gonvick, MN; and Scott (Verena) Pletschett, Clearbrook, MN. Grandchildren, Jordan (Grace) Lendway, Dustin (Lauren) Lee, Jeremy Pletschett (Kelly), Shelby (Mitchell) Krueger, Nikki Lee (Seth), Taylor Pletschett, Tom (Kristi) Lewis, Kristin Lee (Logan), Nick (April) Lewis, Tanner (Carlie) Pletschett, Allison Lewis, Jacob Gunderson, and 12 Great grandchildren.
Siblings: Evon (Gary) Quern, Richard (Debbie) Pletschett; in-laws Ron Johnson, and Mary (Mike) Hoft and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents, brother Shorty (LeRoy) Pletschett, grandson Tom Pletschett, sister in law Carol Johnson, son in law Lonny Gunderson.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 24, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at the Clear Water Life Center in Gonvick, Minnesota with a visitation one hour prior.The Cease Family Funeral Home of Bagley assisted the family with arrangements. Messages of condolence may be left at ceasefuneralhome.com
