Services for Leimona (Monie) Martin
Leimona (Monie) Martin, age 84, of Bagley, Minnesota, passed away Monday, January 13, 2025 in Bagley, Minnesota at Bagley Sanford Medical Center.
Services will be held on Friday, May 2, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at the Faith Lutheran Church in Bagley, Minnesota with a visitation one hour prior. Interment will be held at Bagley City Cemetery in Bagley, Minnesota. The Cease Family Funeral Home of Bagley assisted the family with arrangements.
Leimona (Monie) Mae Kronback was born May 2, 1940, in Springfield, Minnesota. She lived on a farm in Lamberton, Minnesota before moving in 1942 to the family farm in Westbrook, Minnesota. Growing up she was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church. She attended District 68 rural school and graduated from Westbrook high School in 1958. In 1962 she graduated from South Dakota State University with a degree in Home Economics. She was a 4-H member and leader all her life.
She started teaching in Laverne, Minnesota, and in 1963 was married to Fred Martin. She went on to teach in several schools in Omaha, South Dakota and Fargo, North Dakota while her husband attended medical school. Upon the completion of his doctorate, the couple moved to Bagley, Minnesota where they started a family.
Leimona was a member of Faith Lutheran Church. She started the youth program there and was superintendent of the Sunday School. She loved designing and making the church banner, many of which are used by the church today.
Monie had many talents; painting, quilting, but she excelled at basketmaking. She started the Headwaters Basketmaking Guild in Northern Minnesota. She was a member of Gallery North in Bemidji, exhibiting baskets, selling, and teaching classes. Every summer when the families would get together, she always brought a craft to entertain us. She was a very loving and caring person who left many good friends behind and will be deeply missed. Her grandchildren were a special joy in her life.
She is survived by her two sons, Troy Martin of Bagley, Minnesota, and Todd (Karen) Martin of Fosston, Minnesota; sister, Darla (Lars) Trahnstom of Denver, Colorado, brother, Eugene (Maydelle) of Westbrook, Minnesota; and three grandchildren, Laci, Brooke, and Logan Martin.
Monie was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Orina Kronback; daughter, Leisa Martin; and husband, Dr. Fred Martin.
