Jimmie Nelson, 95, of Bagley, MN died on Sunday, January 12, 2025, at the Sanford Bagley Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at the Faith Hill Assembly of God Church at Bagley, Minnesota with the pastor John Swanson officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. The interment will be held at Winifred Cemetery in Winifred, Montana. The Cease Family Funeral Home of Bagley assisted the family with arrangements. Military Rites will be accorded by the Irvin Blix American Legion Post #16 of Bagley.
Jimmie was born on June 13, 1929, at Austin, Minnesota. Jimmie was the son of Sanford and Edna (Larum) Nelson. He grew up and attended school in Blooming Prairie. When he was 16 he took a trip to Winifred, Montana where he decided to stay. Jimmie entered the United States Army, during the Korea era, on January 26, 1951, and was honorably released on December 10, 1952. Jimmie married Lucille Pollard on June 1, 1953, and together they had six children: Jennie, Sanford, Rachel, Laurie, Chris and Mitchell. He was self-employed with his semi-truck. He hauled many things including grain and lumber. Jimmie and Lucille and their family moved to Bagley in 1966, where they bought a farm, raised beef cattle and have lived there ever since. Jimmie also worked for Gesell’s, was a school bus driver and was a New Fly driver, delivering buses. He also traveled to New Orleans, cleaning debris for Brian Fultz. Jimmie retired when he was in his 80’s. He enjoyed his big garden, his horses, and his apple trees. Jimmie was a member of the Faith Hill Assembly of God Church in Bagley, he was very proud to be a Veteran and was a member of the Irvin Blix American Legion Post #16 in Bagley. He was notorious for telling stories and would talk to anyone. Jimmie loved his wife, kids and grandkids very much and loved the Lord.
Jimmie is survived by his wife – Lucille of Bagley, Minnesota; Daughter – Jennie (Steve) Svendsen of Trail, Minnesota; Son – Sanford (Kris) Nelson of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota; Son – Chris (Renae) Nelson of Duluth, Minnesota and son – Mitchell Nelson of Bagley, Minnesota; 12 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren; sister – Margie Bush of San Diego, California.
Jimmie is preceded in death by his parents, his daughter – Rachel Nelson Stenstrom; daughter – Laurie Nelson; great grandson – Jacob; sister – Nina Mae and brothers - Ralph, Charles and Erik.
