Services for Glen Nansen
Glen Nansen Visitation will be Thursday July 18th from 10 to 11:00 AM followed by a 11:00 AM Funeral Service with Military Honors at West-Kjos Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes. Burial will be at Calvary Lutheran Cemetery in Winger, MN at 3:00 PM. Arrangements are with the West-Kjos Funeral Home of Detroit Lakes. Glen Wallace Nansen was born to Frank and Pearl Nansen in Winger, Minnesota on May 24, 1924. He was the second of three children. He enjoyed athletics at an early age, participating in football, basketball and his lifelong favorite sport of baseball. He attended school in Winger, McIntosh and Crookston Agricultural College. After graduation from Crookston, Glen enlisted in the military in 1943. He served in the Army Air Corps as a bombardier on a B-17 aircraft. He has many memories of his military service and the friendships he developed. Glen returned from military service and returned to Minnesota to obtain a degree at the University of Minnesota in business. It was during this time he met his future bride, Beverly Beatt. They were married in Minneapolis July 15, 1949. After further education, he taught mathematics in Calvin, North Dakota and high schools in Fosston and John F. Kennedy in Bloomington, Minnesota. He also coached basketball. Glen and Beverly raised five children in Winger, Lakeville and Howard Lake, Minnesota. He retired from teaching is 1983 and they moved to Detroit Lakes. Glen and Beverly attended Community Alliance Church in Detroit Lakes and he volunteered countless hours to the construction of the church buildings. He enjoyed gardening, Twins baseball, Gopher sports and spending time with family and friends. Unfortunately, the love of his life, Beverly, passed on May 29, 1996.Glen married Floy Metschke in 2005 and they enjoyed several winters in Mesa, Arizona, biking and playing tennis. Survivors include children: Mark Nansen, Gary (Darcy) Nansen, Paul Nansen, Julie (Guy) Astell and Sheryl (Rick) Menden; grandchildren Jennifer (Kevin) Wil
ken, Brett (Jen) Nansen, Amy (Josh) Pederson, Erica Nansen, Jesse (Jenni) Menden, Jason (Helen) Menden, Jonathan (Brittney) Menden, Amber Menden and Chris Astell and six great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Tunnel to Towers to support military families.
