Services for Gladyce Josephson

Gladyce Josephson, age 93, of Fosston, MN, passed away on Saturday, October 12th, at Essentia Health Living Center in Fosston. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 17th, at Poplar Lake Lutheran Church, rural Fosston, with Vicar Andrew Virkus, Pastor John Anderson, and Pastor Jane Ekholm officiating. Interment will be in Poplar Lake Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 6:30 p.m. prayer service on Wednesday, October 16th, at the Carlin Funeral Home in Fosston. There will also be reviewal for one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church. Gladyce Jeanette Enerson was born on Mar. 12, 1926 to Edward and Helen Enerson at their home in rural McIntosh, MN. She was baptized and confirmed at Asphalt Lutheran Church. She attended elementary school at Sunny View country school through 8th grade. She graduated from McIntosh High School in 1945. Gladyce went on to work at various jobs, primarily at Mark’s Drug Store, later known as Nord’s Drug Store.

 

It was at the Mark’s Drug Store soda fountain where she met the love of her life, Arvid Josephson. Soon they married, and together they raised 6 daughters. Judi Hanson, Stillwater, MN, Jan (Wendel) Hanson, Fosston, MN, Linda (Greg) Irmen, Moorhead, MN, Bonnie (Tim) Lundorff, Bemidji, MN, Sheri (Jim) Jones, Cedar Rapids, IA, and Karen Josephson, Algonquin, IL.

 

Gladyce and Arvid farmed most of their married years in Columbia Township, rural Fosston, MN. In their retirement years, they enjoyed many trips throughout the United States as well as a memorable trip to Sweden.

Gladyce was devoted to her family, and shared her love of baking, sewing, and music. She was well known for her chocolate frosting, key lime pie, and chokecherry jelly. She made beautiful hardanger stitcheries, colorful crocheted afghans, and sewed many dressed for her daughters. She entertained her family with her piano skills playing the Black Hawk Waltz.

 

Gladyce Josephson, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend died surrounded by family on Sat. Oct. 12, 2019.

 

In addition to her daughters and sons in law, Gladyce is survived by 12 grandchildren, Nicole, Nathan, Lisa, Michael, Kristen, Amanda, Kayla, Lindsi, Tara, Halle, Jason, Mackenzie, and 17 great grandchildren. She is also survived by several cousins, nieces, nephews, and many many lifelong friends.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband Arvid, parents, and 4 siblings, Olaf, Agnes, Minnie, and Marvin.
