Dorothy Ruth Plante was born February 10, 1935 in Chief Township, near Mahnomen, MN daughter of Adolph and Lydia (Mueller) Gitz. She attended Wren Country school in Mahnomen county. The family moved to South Dakota.
Dorothy moved to Idaho and lived with her sister where she worked on a garden farm. She moved back to the Lengby area where she met her future husband.
On September 10, 1955 she was united in marriage to Walter Plante on September 10, 1955 on the family farm Oklee, MN, to this union Albert, Mary and Roger were born. The couple made their home south of Oklee, MN where she has since resided.
Dorothy enjoyed baking, her specialty was banana cream pie, and taking care of everyone else, she milked cows, Kitty Wells was her favorite cow, she had chickens and turkeys, lambs and pigs. Dorothy always had a large garden and enjoyed canning and had a knack for growing her favorite flower the red rose. She enjoyed attending country Jam Sessions in the area with Kitty Wells and Charlie Pride her favorite singers. In her free time she loved to read western books and doing crossword puzzles. Dorothy had a large collection of cookie jars. Dorothy entered the First Care Living Center May of 2017.
Dorothy is survived by her children Albert (Karen) Plante of McIntosh, MN, Mary Plante of Thief River Falls, MN and Roger Plante of Brooks, MN; grandchildren Chris (Annie) Plante of McIntosh, MN, Amanda (Davin) Swanson of McIntosh, MN, Travis (Cassie) Plante of Mapleton, ND, Zach (Madison) Plante of Grand Forks, ND; great-grandchildren Henry and Hudson Swanson, Vivian and Charlotte Plante; brother Elmer Gitz of Fosston, MN several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents Adolph and Lydia, husband Walter, siblings, infant baby Elizabeth, August Gitz, Bob Gitz, Erma Black, Herman Gitz, Ervin Gitz, Ferdinand Gitz, Dorothy, Lillian Abraham, sister-in-law Lillian Ihrke Gitz and brother-in law Nap & Julia Bourque and nephew Bruce Bourque.
