DeeWayne “Windy” Martine, 80, of Bagley, MN passed away quietly at his home on Saturday, May 13, 2017 after a long, courageous battle with cancer.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Grace Free Lutheran Church in Bagley, MN with Reverend Wayne Hjermstad officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the Bagley City Cemetery in Bagley, MN. The Cease Family Funeral Home of Bagley assisted the family with the arrangements.

Windy was born on September 21, 1936, the son of Harry and Lillian (Lauritson) Martine in Bagley, MN, where he was raised and lived all his life. In the ‘60s Windy worked with his brothers, “Red” and Roy Martine, in International Falls and Little Falls, MN, working in the logging camps. On March 5, 1971, he was united in marriage to Sharon Tollefson in Erskine, MN. Windy then worked for Duane Mathison and Paul Hurd on a sawmill along with Nels LaFerriere doing carpenter work throughout the ‘70s. Windy then did some logging for Bud Smith, Carter Knutson, and Stanley Olson until he started logging for himself in the ‘90s. He retired from logging after a tree fell on his skidder. With a broken collar bone and more, he drove himself to the hospital. Once he retired from logging, he did seasonal work, working for The Gourmet House in Clearbrook, MN until the age of 78.

Windy was always a hard worker and needed to be busy, whether it be working on his cars or in his garden. He loved spending time with family and friends and most of all with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. To anyone who knew him, he liked to tell stories and make people laugh. That we will all miss.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Sharon Martine; his 3 children, Jennifer (Jeff) Pletschett, Kristie Harmon, and Wayne (Sue) Martine; his brother, Roy (Lois) Martine; 9 grandchildren, Jordan, Jeremy, Taylor, and Tanner Pletschett, Kaitlyn Martine, Kendrah Platow, Gabby Harmon, and Jayden and Kolten Martien; 3 great grandchildren, Sophie, Lili, and Aspen Platow.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Kenny, “Red”, Earl, and Bill Martine; his sister, Ilene Schroeder; and his grandson, Tom Pletschett.
