Carole June Halverso, age 84, of Lengby, MN, passed away peacefully at home Wednesday, April 2nd, 2025, surrounded by her family. Carole was born to parents Oscar and Cora Thoveson on June 27th, 1940 in Erskine, MN and raised on the family farm in McIntosh. She graduated from McIntosh High School, class of 1958.
On December 16th, 1960 Carole married the love of her life Vernon Halverson. The couples first move was to Detroit, MI where their children were born. They lived briefly in Chicago, IL and finally settled in St. Paul, MN in 1969 where they lived and raised their family until Vernon’s retirement from the Immigration service in 1982. After retirement they moved near Itasca State Park and in 1990 settled on a farm in rural Lengby. They also loved living in Inverness, FL during the winter months for over 20 years.
Throughout her life Carole was always a very hard working, loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. If you knew Carole, you knew you would be met with a beautiful smile and warm hug. She was a meat packer for Armours Meat Packing Co. in St. Paul until the plants closing in 1979. She enjoyed decorating, sewing, dancing and listening to Vernon play guitar and sing at numerous jam sessions in both Minnesota and Florida. In Florida, Carole spent much of her time shopping, going to church, and eating out with her buddy, Madge.
Preceded in death were Carole’s parents, Oscar and Cora Thoveson, brother Lester Thoveson, sister Mary Lou Schneider and daughter in law Joan Halverson. Survivors include her husband of 64 years Vernon Halverson, son Michael Halverson, daughter Patricia Hargreaves. Grandchildren Nathaniel (Dana) Halverson, Meagan (Drew) Viken, Elizabeth (Weston) Bakke and great granddaughter Ivy Bakke.
Special thanks to Carole’s lifelong friend and classmate Judy Hagen and close friend Madge Dalton for being a part of her life. The family would also like to thank Essentia Hospice of Fosston for all of their support and kindness, as well as, Pastor John Ragan for comforting Carole and her family with gods words and holy communion. A celebration of Carole’s life will be held later this summer when all friends and family members are able to attend.
