Obituary for Kay Frances (Johnson) Pletschett

With great sadness the family of Kay Frances (Johnson) Pletschett announces her passing on Saturday October 1, 2022, at the age of 76, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.

Kay was born in Elgin, IL on June 21, 1946, to Harold and Frances (Immonen) Johnson. She graduated from Wheaton Community High School, Wheaton, IL in 1964. She started working at Sears with her sister Mary after graduating. Shortly after, she met Leo Pletschett and they were married on June 12, 1965, in Winfield, IL. They proceeded to have three children, Vonda, Jeff, and Scott. In 1981 they moved to Gonvick, MN where they took over Sportsman Lodge at Pine Lake until 2000 and Shorty’s Place of Gully until 2008.

Kay was very talented with all her hobbies; gardening, cooking/baking, sewing, painting and decorating. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren, taking them on trips, going to movies, and watching them with their sporting activities. Both Kay and Leo loved to watch and feed the wild birds. She always had a passion for her beloved pets.

She is survived by her children Vonda (Jason) Bring, Galesburg, ND; Jeff (Jenny) Pletschett, Gonvick, MN; and Scott (Verena) Pletschett, Clearbrook, MN. Grandchildren, Jordan (Grace) Lendway, Dustin (Lauren) Lee, Jeremy (Kelly) Pletschett, Shelby Krueger, Nikki Lee (Seth), Taylor Pletschett, Tom (Kristi) Lewis, Kristin (Logan) Elliot, Nick (April) Lewis, Tanner (Carlie) Pletschett, Allison Lewis, Jacob Gunderson, 10 Great Grandchildren, 2 arriving soon and the family dog Ellie. Siblings: Mary Hoft; in-laws Evon (Gary) Quern, Richard (Debbie) Pletschett.

Preceding her in death were her husband of 57 years, her parents, brother-in-law Shorty (LeRoy) Pletschett, grandson Tom Pletschett, sister-in-law Carol Johnson, son-in-law Lonny Gunderson, brother-in-law Michael Hoft, and brother Ron Johnson.

Plans are being made for a memorial service at Samhold Lutheran in Gonvick on Saturday, Oct. 8th at 2"00 p.m. Please check with Cease Funeral Home for details.
