Norman Dean Bakke
Norman Dean Bakke, 71, passed away on Monday, March 2, 2026, at Cornerstone Nursing and Rehab Center in Bagley, Minnesota.
A celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at the Clearwater Life Center (Gonvick School Gymnasium) from 2:00 – 5:00 pm with a service at 3:00 pm with Pastor Will Anderson officiating.
Norman was born on July 27, 1954, in Bagley, Minnesota, to Melvin and Helen (Eck) Bakke. He was baptized and confirmed at Samhold Lutheran Church in Gonvick. Norman grew up on a farm west of Gonvick, where life was filled with both hard work and fun. From a young age, he helped his father with chores, harvesting, and whatever else needed to be done. Norman was known for his quiet nature and strong sense of responsibility. During his school years, he maintained perfect attendance and graduated in May of 1973.
After graduation, Norman worked various jobs and enjoyed traveling. He once took a memorable trip with his cousin Frank Dyrdahl to Atlanta, Georgia. They spent the summer in Georgia, where he worked on golf-course aeration, and later traveled across the country to Seattle to visit family.
Throughout his life, Norman worked primarily as a custodian, a role in which his dedication and work ethic truly stood out. After obtaining his boiler license, he worked at the Gonvick Public School, and later at the Warroad Public School. After returning home to help care for his mother, Norman began working at the Clearwater County Courthouse in Bagley, Minnesota. He faithfully served there for 20 years before retiring in 2017. Norman took great pride in his work and was often complimented for the impeccable care he gave to both the inside and outside of the courthouse. His word was as good as gold, and he never missed a day of work.
Norman found joy in the simple things in life. His dogs, “Champ” and “Pepsi”, were constant companions, and he loved them like family. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles and snowmobiling. Norman was rarely without his camcorder and was well known for recording many family gatherings and special events, helping preserve memories that will be cherished for years to come.
Norman loved spending time with friends and family and rarely missed an event. He created many lasting memories and will always hold a special place in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Norman is survived by his siblings: Wayne (Kathy) Bakke of Gonvick, Bruce (Judy) Bakke of Fargo, David Bakke of Gonvick, and Brenda (Rick) Skarison of Bagley; sisters-in-law, Lynette Bakke of Fosston, and Beth Bakke of Moorhead; his aunt and godmother, Patricia “Tippy” Berg of Clearbrook; and his aunt, Mavis Eck of Bagley; he is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Helen; his grandparents; his siblings, Mervin, Judy (Donny), and Randy; his sister-in-law, Renee; niece, Colleen Knoop; Uncle, Harlow Berg and many aunts, uncles, and friends.
Norman will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
