Marian Grondahl

Marian Grondahl, age 80, of Fosston, MN, passed away on Tuesday, July 28th, at Essentia Living Center in Fosston. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 8th, at Samhold Lutheran Church in Gonvick with the Rev. Will Anderson officiating. Family will greet friends for one prior to the service on Saturday (8th) at the church in Gonvick. Marian Delores Olson was born on December 28, 1945, in Fosston, Minnesota to parents Anton and Ida (Haugen) Olson. She grew up in Queen Township, attended the Sunnyside country school and graduated from Fosston High School in 1963. After high school, she started working at Mark’s Drug Store in Fosston.

Marian was united in marriage to Andrew Grondahl on October 24, 1964, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Queen Township. To this union, two daughters were born, Roxanne in 1965 and Rebecca in 1966. They lived, farmed and raised their family on the Grondahl home place.

Marian stayed home until their daughters were in school. At that point she began work at the Gamble’s Store in Fosston, working there for several years. She then started at Nord’s Drug in Fosston, where she worked until her retirement in 2017. She continued to live on the farm until moving to Cornerstone Assisted Living in Fosston.

She was a past member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church until its closing and was a current member of Samhold Lutheran Church in Gonvick. She liked sewing, doing yard work and being at the farm.

Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Andy, of Fosston; two daughters, Roxanne (Wade) Bakke of Fosston and Rebecca (Ted) Stout of Barnesville, MN; grandchildren, Samantha (Nathan) Lindom, Weston (Elizabeth) Bakke, Benjamin Stout (fiancé, Sara), and Andrew (Micah) Stout; great grandchildren, Tilden, Ivy, Witten and Sigrid (on the way in October).

Also surviving are two siblings, Clarice Dietrich and Duane Olson; sister-in-law, Shirley Lee; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Edgar and Arlen; brothers-in-law, Duane Dietrich and Donald Lee; and sisters-in-law, Phyllis Olson, Ardell Olson, and Judy Olson.
