Jeanne Granley
Jeanne Granley, age 84 of Clearbrook, passed away suddenly on March 22, 2026, leaving behind a life full of love, adventure, and deep devotion to her family.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2026 at 11:00 a.m.at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Clearbrook with Michael Wright. The Cease Family Funeral Home assisted with the arrangements. Visitation one hour before the service.
Jeanne was born to Melvin & Celia (Anderson) Heggestad on June 16, 1941, in Starbuck, Minnesota. She was confirmed and baptized at Indherred Lutheran Church and graduated from Starbuck in 1959. She went on to attend college at Concordia in Moorhead for a year, studying business.
In 1960, Jeanne married Larry Voxland, and in 1962 they welcomed their son, Todd. Life took them on a bit of an adventure in 1970 when they moved to Alaska. Just six months later they returned to Minnesota and settled in Leonard. Though Jeanne and Larry later divorced, that chapter of her life brought her the joy of motherhood, which remained one of her greatest treasures.
On January 30, 1987, Jeanne married James Granley, beginning a beautiful friendship and partnership that would last 39 wonderful years. Jeanne and Jim shared a love for the simple joys in life—taking spontaneous day trips during the weekends, dining at their favorite restaurants, and spending half the year (the warmer part!) at their beloved lake home on Clearwater Lake. Some of her favorite moments were spent out on the pontoon, quietly cruising and looking for birds. Jeanne also enjoyed spending a nice evening on the deck overlooking the lake, talking with family, and enjoying the loon’s cries.
Jeanne was also an avid bowler, spending many years bowling with some of her very best friends. She would often speak about the many adventures she had driving to and from bowling tournaments. She was very proud of her bowling, and even more proud of the friendships that were made. She was a loyal Vikings fan, and also a Wheel of Fortune enthusiast. She cherished annual downhill skiing trips to Colorado with Jim, although they eventually hung up their ski boots in 2004. Jeanne also took pride in helping organize the Annual Santa Claus Days craft shows, but later just enjoyed attending. She was never one to turn down a fun craft show and pick out fun “homemade” gifts to gift her family with.
Jeanne’s heart belonged to her family. She loved fiercely and showed it in countless ways, whether it be by gift giving, buying dinner for her loved ones, good morning and goodnight texts, or traveling near and far to see them in person. She especially enjoyed taking roadtrips to and from Texas with her granddaughter(s) to visit her son Todd and his wife Karen. Wherever she traveled, she made sure to create memories that will be cherished forever.
Jeanne was also known for her hard work and dedication. She was employed by Dick and Corrine Richards at Richards Publishing in Gonvick for over 50 years, working full time up until she passed. She also said that she didn’t have any hobbies, so retirement just wasn’t an option. Through this employment, she made many great friends. Of those friends, she still very much looked forward to having coffee with her great friend Evon Quern. They enjoyed many, many years of friendship and Jeanne truly cherished her time with Evon.
Jeanne will be remembered for her strength, her sense of adventure, her humor, her kindness, and her deep, steady love. She knew no stranger, even adopting the nickname “Grandma Jean” from many of her granddaughter's friends. She leaves behind a legacy of laughter, many memorable road trips, incredible memories, and unwavering devotion to family.
She will be missed immensely.
She leaves behind her husband James Granley, Son Todd (Karen) Voxland, Granddaughter Megan Voxland, Great Granddaughter Gracie Compton, Brother Mark (Jill) Heggestad, sister Ruth Ann “Bootsie” Ohman (Don Secora), her Aunt JoAnn Holten, numerous nieces and nephews & great nieces and nephews, her good friend Evon Quern, and an entire community. She is preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Celia Heggestad, her brother Donald, and ex-husband Larry Voxland.
