Charles “Chuck” Henning Aakre
Charles “Chuck” Henning Aakre was born on January 16, 1936, in Bagley, Minnesota to Ingvald and Ida (Moen) Aakre. As an infant, Charles was reborn as a child of God in the waters of Holy Baptism. Charles confessed his baptismal faith in the rite of Confirmation later in his childhood. He was united in holy marriage to Delores Habedank on June 13, 1959, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in McIntosh, Minnesota. God blessed their marriage with the gift of six children.
Charles completed 8th grade at Rydeen School in Leon Township and Clearbrook School. He attended trade school in Crookston. Charles joined the Army on June 13, 1958. He served his country while stationed in Hawaii until March 15, 1960. Upon returning from the Army, he worked various construction jobs and then began farming with Delores by his side.
Charles had a reputation for having some of the best-kept fields in the area. He took pride in his farmland and in his dairy cows. He had a strong work ethic and showed his resiliency throughout his more than 55 years of farming. Charles enjoyed fishing, perusing books of old-time tractors, and watching RFDTV. Charles was a quality plus milk producer for Land O’ Lakes. He served as a deacon for Redeemer Lutheran Church in Bagley, Minnesota. During his later years of life, his sense of humor became more apparent, sharing wit and laughter with those around him. In fact, the staff at Cornerstone even gave him the nickname “Chuckles”!
He is survived by his children: Deborah (Steven) King; David (Jennifer) Aakre; Charles Aakre Jr.; Colleen (Tod) Duffy; Daniel (Brianna) Aakre; and Denise Reimink; seventeen grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife Delores, his brother Harlan, sister Lois, and great-grandson Dominic.
On June 5, 2026, Charles fell asleep in the arms of his Lord and Savior. He was 90 years old when he was welcomed into the rest of the Lord. “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints.” (Psalm 116:15)
We invite all who knew and loved Charles to join us as we give thanks to the Lord for the blessings of his life and celebrate the grace of God in the life and death of Charles.
Visitation is on Friday, June 19, 2026 from 5pm-7pm at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Bagley, MN with a prayer service at 6pm. The funeral service is on Saturday, June 20 at 3pm, with visitation one hour prior to the service. A luncheon will be served in the church basement following the service. Burial will follow at Emmanuel Cemetery, near Leonard with military rites accorded by the Melvin Johnson Post #256.
