Clearbrook-Gonvick School board meeting June 15, 2026
The Clearbrook-Gonvick School board met in regular session on Monday June 15, 2026. The regular minutes of the previous meeting of May 18 and May 26 were approved.
Jen Chapman, Association Municipal Advisor with Ehlers Public Finance and advisors was present to let the board know that the bonds had been sold and the buyer was TD Financial Products which operates out of New York. The winning bid was 2.87% for the roof upgrades for the 3.28-million-dollar project. The highest one was 3.169%. There were six bids for the four million bond which the board did not want to go over. The district S&P rating was an A. The district had a positive rating. The board adopted a Resolution awarding of the sale of General Obligation Facility Maintenance Bonds. Brandon Tremco with Tremco Roof and Building is the General Contractor. A meeting will be held with him on June 29, 2026. The Black Hawk Roof Company of Waterloo, Iowa received the bid for the work at $2,873.300. Thief River Glass was awarded the contract for the main entrance windows at $252,768.30. Ehlers suggested that they take 1.2 million out of the bond account and put into construction. The indoor air quality project will be soon to finished.
Principal Tharaldson
Josh Tharaldson had 23 kindergarten and 30 seniors that took part in graduation ceremonies. Thanks to the Kindergarten teachers and Willow Christen and Erica Erickson and Senior advisors Michelle DeVries and James Bettin for their hard work on the programs. They are in need of substitutes to be added to the pool for subbing. The school can get the information that is needed to sign up. Their title application has been sent to the state. Open enrollment can be done any time by calling the school.
Superintendent Grow
Ryan Grow has open positions for K to 12 music teacher and a part-time cook for next year. Board members Kayla and Ryan worked on the non-certified contracts for a two-year period. Three school board members are up for election this fall. They include Corey Petterson, Randall Bodensteiner and Ryan Solee. Time to apply for those who wish to be on the ballot is July 14 to July 28, 2026. Filing fee is $2.00. Three staff will be attending an Educational Training with the state MTSS and the NW Service Cooperative. There is an important ballot that taxpayers will vote on in November. It has to do with language for the distribution of money from the state. This will change the language that was made in 1858. It will not increase any taxes on taxpayers. There is 675 million that will be allocated to state school districts once that is done. If you don’t vote at all it will be a NO vote. It will be important for this to change for districts. They have worked on the 26-27 preliminary budget. They will be attending a meeting in Erskine on Long-term facility maintenance. There will be a meeting with Brendon Tremco on June 29 concerning preconstruction meeting. The new truck will be coming June 16. There is a section on the football field that needs work on the irrigation line. They will have an update on the cooling system. Dan Brein will be checking the electrical system in the high school gym.
Consent Calendar was approved. Total Non-Payroll was $617,355.58 and Payroll $143,490.49 for a total of $760,846.07. Vendor checks included $106,272.03 for replacement for lost check to Superior Transportation; $92.885/52 to Superior Transportation; $16,350.50 to Clearwater County Nursing Service; $15,750.00 to Eide Bailly; $13,626.14 to Kelly Services; $9,789.36 to BRIC; $9,548.82 to Clearwater Polk Electric; $6,047.40 to Lidstrom’s, Disposal Inc. $5,053.09 to City of Clearbrook; $3,213.12 to B& M Supply; $3000 to Bemidji Bus Line; $1,086.12 to Garden Valley. Total reported donations received from various organizations and business places from 7-1-2025 to 4-30-26 was $43,648.00.
Enrollment report had the number of pupils at 500, the same as last month.
Old Business…
The sale of the school district owned buses to Superior Transportation was from the May agenda. Grow was asked to get a quote on what the four buses would be worth. He contacted United Bus out of Big Lake and they gave him a value and amounts. The board decided to sell the four buses to Superior for $222,000. The funds will be invested in the liquid asset account. There would be a check coming to the district.
New Business…
Three hires were approved by the board. Roxanne Dahlke as Varsity Assistant Girls Basketball Coach for next season at Step C for $4,000; Brittany Beckstrand as Junior High Volleyball Coach for next season at $2,300 and Brittni Jallen as Elementary Education Teacher for fourth grade at $48,251. There were five applicants.
Three resignations were approved by the board. Casey Crane as Junior High Football Coach; Randy Reimer as Assistant Varsity Baseball Coach after two years of service and the resignation of Joanne Lavin as Paraeducator after 14 years in the district.
The board adopted the resolution authorizing the Superintendent as the Identified Official with Authority for Education Identify and access Management for ISD #2311 for the coming year.
The board accepted the Insurance Proposal from Marsch McLennan Agency for the next school year for $115,013.27. The board had extra insurance over last year of $6,300 with the workers’ compensation.
The board hired Eide Bailly for Auditing Service for the Fiscal Year 2026. Their bid was the same as last year at $26,250.00
The board approved the Preliminary 2026-2027 School District Budget. They have expenditures projected at $13,981,782 and revenues projected at $14,210,663.They approved the revisions to MSBA Model Policy 721.
The board approved the agreement between MSEA and ISD #2311 that had been negotiated with board members Kayla and Ryan. They agreed on 3% for each of two years.
The next regular meeting was set for July 20 at 7:00 p.m. Grow would also like to setup a future work session on strategic planning.
