Garden Valley Technologies Holds 121st Annual Membership Meeting
Garden Valley Technologies (GVT) held its 121st Annual Membership Meeting at the Win-E-Mac School in Erskine on June 2, 2026. A total of more than 165 members and guests attended the meeting, with additional members tuning in through GVT's Local Content Channels and online livestream.
Before the meeting, attendees enjoyed live music from WoodPicks, light refreshments, and the opportunity to visit with GVT employees about the Cooperative's products and services, including demonstrations of GVT Stream. Lunch was served following the meeting and catered by Mill Street Catering of Fertile, Minnesota.
The meeting officially began at 10:30 a.m. with an invocation by Pastor Pam Thorson of Grace Lutheran Church, the Presentation of Colors by Erskine American Legion Post 596, and the Pledge of Allegiance. Secretary Lee Hoaas confirmed a quorum was present, reviewed the Official Notice of Meeting, and presented the minutes from the 2025 Annual Meeting for member approval.
The business session included reports from President Jim Ferden, Treasurer Casey Holland, and CEO/General Manager Tim Brinkman, who provided updates on GVT's financial performance, strategic initiatives, construction progress, and the Cooperative's continued commitment to serving rural communities. Members also received an update on the Universal Service Fund (USF), which remains essential in helping keep broadband services affordable in rural areas.
A special highlight of the meeting was a video celebrating 10 years of GVT Local Channels and the students who help bring local events and stories to life. The video showcased the valuable skills students gain through hands-on experience in broadcasting, video production, announcing, and storytelling while serving their schools and communities. The program continues to create meaningful connections between students, schools, families, and viewers throughout the region.
Election results were announced during the Annual Membership Meeting for three Board of Director seats representing Districts 2, 5, and 8.
In District 2, representing Brooks, Erskine, and Mentor, incumbent director Lee Hoaas was re-elected to another term.
In District 5, representing Fosston and Lengby, incumbent director Casey Holland was re-elected to another term.
District 8, representing CLEC and National Members, including Bejou, Thief River Falls, and Warren, was uncontested. In accordance with the Cooperative's Bylaws, incumbent director Jim DeVries was deemed elected by acclamation.
Attendees received a GVT-branded seat cushion and were entered into drawings for several door prizes. The grand prize, a $150 GVT bill credit, was awarded to Brian Helgeson of Bejou.
As GVT celebrates 121 years of service, the Annual Membership Meeting reflected the many ways connections come to life across the communities we serve. From investing in broadband infrastructure and advancing technology to supporting local schools, students, and community partnerships, GVT remains committed to keeping members connected today and helping build a stronger future for generations to come.
