Darrell Hoie

Darrell Hoie was raised in Bagley by parents Almer and Arlene Hoie along with three brothers and one sister. He was a member of the Bagley High School class of 1970.

Darrell enlisted in the US Navy in 1970 taking his basic training at the Great Lakes Naval Base near Chicago IL. His sea duty training was completed at Millington Tenn. He served on the USS Saratoga an air craft carrier. His duties included working on flight deck as plane handler. An interesting fact after discharge the ship sailed to Vietnam stopping in Athens Greece for a week. When they departed the ship took on 28 feet of water so they had to turn around back to Athens for repairs that took three weeks and all the sailors enjoyed that.

Darrell’s father, Almer, was a WWII veteran.  Brother Dennis served two years in the army while in Vietnam he was a Military Police. Brother Dallas made the military a career serving twenty-four years in the Air Force. Darrell completed his military service in 1972 with a rank of E2 having earned a National Defense Medal.

Darrell in his civilian life retired after forty years working as a bricklayer.

In his retirement he enjoys wintering in Arizona along with his partner Faye Fraley and visiting casinos with a love for bingo.

He is proud to be a member of the Irvin Blix Post 16.

Durwood Lundmark

Durwood Lundmark, better known as Woody, was raised in Leonard graduating with the Clearbrook High School class of 1966.

Stanley, his older brother, served with the military in Germany. Woody was drafted in March of 1968 into the US Army. Completing his basic training at Fort Lewis WA was followed by infantry training at Fort Ord CA. He was then deployed to serve in Vietnam. An interesting fact if he would extend his tour in Vietnam by two months, he would get a five month early out which he did being discharged in Octboer 1969 with a rank of Sergeant E-5. 

Woody is married to Sue O’Bryan and together they had three children. He is proud and honored to be his sister Ann Lundmark’s guardian a client of the Clearwater DAC.

He made his living by being one of the best carpenters in the area.

For his service he was awarded the following medals: Bronze Star, Air Medal, National Defense, Vietnam Service, and Combat readiness.  You can find his paver stone at the Clearwater County Veteran Memorial in Bagley.
