Marvin (Smiley) Lyle Edvenson
Marvin (Smiley) Lyle Edvenson passed away on March 24, 2026, at the age of 85. He was born on April 16, 1940 in Todd County, MN to Ilah and Milton Edvenson. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy to begin his career as a Parachute Rigger. On November 16, 1963, he married Karen Bremseth in Gonvick, MN. After 21 1/2 years, he retired from the Navy as a CPO Survival Crew Equipment man on June 1, 1979. In December 1979, he joined the workforce at NARF as Foreman of the oxygen shop and remained there until he retired for the final time in April 1995.
Marvin thoroughly enjoyed retirement. For many years, he canoed and camped with the West Florida Canoe Club. Later, he developed a passion for canoe sailing that he pursued for several years. Marvin and Karen traveled extensively in their motorhome (with their cats) for 25 years seeking adventures in Alaska, Canada and throughout the U.S. In July 2024, they, with their daughter and family, traveled to Norway for a Norwegian Fjords cruise. Marvin enjoyed smoking meats and preparing world class shrimp boils, all to be shared with family and friends. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years Karen, devoted daughter Karla (Colin) Keesler, grandchildren Karianna, Harrison and Audrey Keesler; Kristen (Jon) Daniel, Britanie Edvenson and Peyton Edvenson; great-granddaughters Kinsley and Blakeleigh Daniel, Bentley and Brielle Edvenson; brothers Roger (Gladys) Edvenson, Harley (Ellen) Edvenson, brother-in-law Lowell (Beverly) Bremseth, and his special cat Marty. His son Michael preceded him in death as did his sister Irene and brother Duane.
A viewing will be held at 11:30 am on April 6, 2026 at The Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, Pensacola, FL. The service will begin at 12 pm followed by lunch. At 1:30 pm, the motorcade will leave the church for burial at Barrancas National Cemetery at 2 pm. Bright colors are encouraged. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Lutheran Church of the Resurrection or to Pensacola Humane Society.
