It’s that time! The Spring “Wake-up Garden” Workshop

It’s March so that means it’s time for The Shevlin Garden Clubs annual “Spring Wake-Up Garden Workshop”. The workshop will be held on Saturday March 21, at 1pm-4pm at the Bagley American Legion. 

This year there are three featured speakers who will share diverse programs all related to everything garden.  

Joyce Rairdon (No Till Gardening):
She is a University of Minnesota Extension Master Gardener in Beltrami County.  Grew up on a farm in the Lengby area.  Interesting tidbit; her first job was at Stinar’s Shady Oak Nursery, while still in high school.
Currently, she lives near Cass Lake with her husband, and raise many varieties of vegetables; both to preserve and give to others. Joyce’s favorite things to grow are Winter Squash and peppers. They also have several types of fruit bearing shrubs, vines and trees. A recent addition was a pollinator garden, a continuing Master Gardener project.

Sheila Capistran (Preparing Horticulture Entries for the Fair). Sheila will discuss how to prepare your fair entry for the horticultural building.  She is all about “using what you have” (everything is a vase). She will share how to find flowers and foliage--no matter the time of year, and getting it all together.

Additionally, the workshop will have a seed swap table of extra or collected seeds from members and attendees. Door prizes provided by some local businesses, greenhouses, and several members of Shevlin Garden Club.

Refreshments will be available at the break, and coloring pages provided for kids who attend.

This is a public event, all are welcome.  There is no charge to attend.
