Gonvick City Council November 13, 2025
The Gonvick City Council met in regular session on Thursday, November 13.
The minutes were approved from the October 9, 2025 meeting.
Logan LeClaire with the Clearwater Couty Emergency management was there to present a new tornado and emergency warning system for the fire hall. At the present time the warnings have to be physically opened to alert residents. This would be on a radio-controlled system and could be done by the Sheriff’s office in Bagley in case of an emergency. The county is looking at about 80 to 90 percent of the cost and the rest from the cities. The council was in agreement to go ahead with the plan and would cover the rest of the cost. He had presented the option to Clearbrook and they agreed as well.
Ryan Solee was not present at the meeting to present his report. He had been at an incident in Bagley
The council approved Resolution 25-03 – “Joint Legal Representation and Consent to Concurrent Conflict of Interest.” It is a revised agreement for law enforcement between the cities of Clearbrook and Gonvick.
Gonvick Fire Chief Cody Rude brought his report to the council. They had 1 meeting, 1 work night, 1 grass fire, 1 training night. The Gonvick Fire department attended the fire prevention program at the Clearbrook-Gonvick School.
The new pole for the tornado siren has been put in on the southwest corner of the fire hall.
The department will be having a retirement part for Dale Schmunk and Cory Moy on November 22 at the Gonvick American Legion. Dale has been with the department 27 years, and Cory had served 30 years.
They had Great Plains Fire Service pump test and service both engines, both passed pump test by ISO standards.
The department is looking into storage containers to be used to make a training facility, and they applied for the Gary Sinise foundation grant for new auto extrication/wildland fire fighting gear.
The November 22 morning meeting of the department will hold elections of officers.
The 1992 Kodiak truck that had been put up on bids was opened and Charlie Hazzard from Spring Lake had the winning bid of $5,100.
Maintenance Issues. Dan Johnson said that the water hydrant by the old tennis courts was fixed and that they would be able to have the ice skating rink flooded again from that point.
Misc Issues
The Old City Hall has a deterioration issue. A letter had been received from Kyle Langfeld, son of David Langfeld and Kimberly Langfeld, the owners of the building. Due to the passing of David, they were not sure what would be done with the building. The discussion was to pursue options that could be available.
2026 wages for two city employees of $2.40 per hour was passed by the council
There was an inquiry about the Old Vandy’s lot to purchase. City Clerk Stacy Sather will investigate what has to be done to put it up for bids for anyone who would like to purchase the property on Main Street.
The Liquor License for the Trap was approved.
Tim Stebe has put in the new furnace in the Community Center.
Bills were paid with a total amount of $137,903.35. That included Water and Sewer $2,938.39, General $36,420.31 and Fire $98,544.65. The largest amount was paying off the new roof at the fire hall for $89,869.00.
