Simple Pleasures

Simple Pleasures has turned into just that, a pleasure to be simply involved. Tyra Goodwin, a student in the Clearbrook-Gonvick High school, attended a seminar this past summer which educated her on the aspects of Alzheimer’s. As a Certified Nursing Assistant, Tyra gives of her time to helping support the elderly.
   One of her ideas she wanted to implement from this workshop was to begin a project called, Simple Pleasures. She wanted to fill small decorative boxes with things that might bring pleasure to the residents she works with. “There are times when they get down and simply by bringing them back to some happy time in their lives, it helps them remember moments that bring them joy.”
    She presented her project to the iMPACT students at school, (a volunteer organization) and she has been reporting her progress to them each week. The group purchased several boxes for her, but an unexpected twist came when some members of the third grade class spotted her boxes in the classroom and began asking questions.
Soon, that same week, the students began bringing some of their very own little cars to place into one of the boxes. Their hope is that some of the residents in the nursing home will remember what it was like playing with toy cars and it will bring them a little pleasure when they do.
