2311 School Board October 20, 2025
The Clearbrook-Gonvick School board met in regular session on Monday October 20.
All members were present.
Spotlight on Education was given by Mr. Bettin. It has been a busy month with Fire Safety and Homecoming. The Ornithology class with Peyton Dingmann, Science teacher, took them out to band Mallards. The Tech Ed class received more donations from Milwaukee for the woodworking class. He thanked everyone for their participation in the fund drive that came up with $2,012 donation that was given to Heidi Marsh. There are only 8 days left in the first quarter of school.
They approved the agenda.
Principals report
Josh Tharaldson met with seniors to kickoff Direct Admissions Program. The program is to expose all seniors to possible opportunities after graduation. They have visited MSUM , NDSU, BSU and NTC. Plans are for a visit to Marvin Windows and Polaris in Roseau.
October 29th there will be an All-Staff In-Service with no school for students. Instead, the school will be hosting a regional student council summit that day with over 200 students coming for all day sessions. Mr. Bettin has been working with that project.
Project 11 with Katie Johnson has been continuing with social/emotional learning using that as their base. Supporting students to bring mental health awareness along with positive coping skills into their lives is the main goal with Project 11.
Open Enrollment update was at 503 students compared to 521 the last day of school in May.
Upcoming Events
Music Solo Contest November 5th at Bagley
Veterans Day Program will be in the gym on November 11 at 10:00 Am with Leroy Sundquist and the Gonvick Legion in charge this year. All community members are invited to attend. Coffee and goodies to be served after the program.
Girls Basketball starts November 10th
Boys Basketball starts November 17th.
Parent/Teacher conferences November 13th – Elementary Only (4:00-7:00 PM) and November 20th High School and Elementary (4:00-7:00 p.m.)
November 20 and 21. Mrs. Hegg and her first grade class will be putting on Famous Explorers from 1:30 to 2:00 p.m.
Superintendents report
Superintendent Ryan Grow stated they are in need of two coaches for the upcoming season.
October 29 when regional students from area schools that are coming will also be helping with the food program. United Way and Food Banks will have boxes that have to be sorted and distributed by the students.
Exploring Scouting America program will be meeting on October 30. Sanford will be coming in to speak with 9 to 12 grade students who might be interested in Health care as a potential career.
The MSBA convention is coming up and Ryan needed to know if anyone was interested so that he could get hotel reservations as soon as possible.
The governor wants to call a special legislature session This is not a budget year and only language will be the main item.
The auditor can’t present a completed audit unit they get more information from the legislature.
They had switched the computer system from Marco to Corporate Technologies and now they are switching back to Marco. They were asked to find key things that would have to be prioritized to get fixed. A figure suggested by Marco was $258,000.
Virgil Tronnes, school custodian, has training coming up for the IEQ (Indoor Environmental Quality) project that was completed. The project was on the air quality and heat in the building. The last parts were installed. The State Fire Marshall was in and checked out the building.
One of the sprinkler lines in the football field broke. They will wait until spring to have that checked out. Also, there was a plumbing issue at the concession stand that needed a plumber called to do the work

The board drew out $1,500,000 to go into the Construction account. $1,378,417.55 remains from the bond proceeds principal investment account that is with Ehlers and Associates
The bills were approved with $1,175.630/41 and payroll $263,587.43 for a total of $1,439,217.84.

They hired Tricia Horn as the Special Education Paraeducator at Step 3 for $17.44 per hour; Brian Bakke as a custodian at $19.13 per hour and he started that day; Aleeyah Molden as Cheerleading Advisor at $1,400.
They accepted the resignation of Adam Smith as Custodian due September 26, 2025.
