Obituary for Donald Lundmark

It's with a heavy heart that I announce that my father, Donald Lundmark, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2025, at his home in Bishop, Texas. Left to cherish his memory is his "number one daughter," Cheryl Schoop, of Chesapeake, Virginia (Robert), his grandson Kyle Schoop, of Suffolk, Virginia, and his granddaughter, Shelby Schoop, of Grand Forks, North Dakota. He is predeceased in death by his bride of 53 years, Peggy, and his son, Billy. Donald, nicknamed "Billy" by his family, left the family farm in Leonard, Minnesota, at the tender age of seventeen to enlist in the Navy and follow his dream of working in aviation. He attended Boot Camp at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center, then onto AMH (Hydraulics) "A" School at NATTC Memphis, Tennessee. After "A" School, he got orders to Naval Air Station Miramar, California. Here, his fondness for the F-4J was ignited so much that a picture of an F-4J is engraved on the front of his headstone. The VF-103 Sluggers squadron patch is engraved on the back of the headstone. During a long and distinguished career that spanned twenty-three years, he earned numerous commendations, including the Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon with a bronze star and the Vietnam Service Medal with a bronze star. After his naval career, he worked for USAirways, retiring in January 2004. A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date.
