Services for Elaine "Perry" Loiland
Elaine "Perry" Loiland, 86, of Bagley, Minnesota died on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at Cornerstone Nursing and Rehab in Bagley, Minnesota.
Services will be held on what would have been her 87th birthday, February 22, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at the Cease Family Funeral Home in Bagley, Minnesota with a visitation one hour prior. A visitation will also be held the evening prior on Friday, February 21, 2025, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Cease Family Funeral Home in Bagley, Minnesota. The interment will be held at Valle Lutheran Cemetery in Trail, Minnesota. The Cease Family Funeral Home of Bagley assisted the family with arrangements.
Elaine "Perry" Kathlene was born on February 22, 1938, to Orville and Edith (Scholz) Perry in Stutsman County, Lippert Township, close to Eldridge, North Dakota. She was baptized on April 17, 1938, in Eldridge, ND. She was the second child in a line of five. Elaine's father died in a car accident when she was a child leaving her mother to raise 5 children. Her mother remarried, giving Elaine another sister. Sadly, her mother passed away when Elaine was 11 years old. Elaine and her siblings went to live with their grandparents Richard and Tena Scholz. Her grandparents later divorced and moved to Jamestown. Elaine and her siblings lived with their grandmother and attended school in Jamestown. During the summer they would go to her Uncle Ernie's and help on the farm. She was confirmed on June 1, 1952, at St John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jamestown, ND. When she was old enough, she went to work at the Fare Store in Jamestown. In 1956 when Elaine turned 18, she moved to Fargo, ND and found employment at a clothing store. It was there that she met her lifelong friends, the Fjerstad girls. Her new friendships eventually led her to frequent trips "Up North". With 2 of the girls having the same name it was decided that they would call Elaine by her last name. She has been Perry ever since. Although when she would return home to Jamestown she was always known as Elaine. It was "Up North" where she was introduced to her future husband, Gordon Loiland. Perry and Gordie were married October 14, 1960, and made their home in Oklee, MN. Out of this union came four children, Steven, Thomas, LuWayne and Edith. In 1964, they purchased and moved into their new home in Trail, MN. Perry began working for Arctic Cat sewing snowsuits. She also started an upholstery business in her basement with her friend Marilyn Halvorson. This also led to the teaching of Upholstery Classes in the 1980's. Perry was not one to sit idle and this found herself teaming up with Carlyn and Arnold Person making a variety of crafts and going to many craft shows even as far North as Grygla, MN. Perry and Gordie later divorced. In 1975, she started to work at the Good Samaritan Center in Clearbrook, MN. She began in housekeeping and after 10 years she was promoted to the Activities Department and worked in activities until she retired. The Good Samaritan Center was more than a job for Perry, she loved what she did and devoted herself to the residents. She was awarded employee of the month in 1986, and then employee of the year in 1992. After working at the Good Samaritan Center Perry went to work at Windsor Lefse and also worked at the Garden Place just North of Bagley. In the early winter of 2006 Perry sold her home in Trail and moved to Bagley, MN bringing her closer to her children and grandchildren. It was then she started babysitting, and unknown to her at the time would end up with 3 bonus grandsons. Perry was an active member of the community. She served on the Trail City Council, the VFW Auxiliary and was active with the Ladies Aide at Sand Valley Lutheran Church, Trail and Faith Lutheran Church, Bagley. She also volunteered with the 4-H program and was a Sunday school teacher when her children were young. Perry also volunteered at the Senior Center in Bagley. In May of 1981, Perry, along with her good friend Glendine Benson, graduated with her GED along with their sons who graduated from Gonvick High School. She loved crafts of all sorts, painting, sewing, quilting, and baking. Perry wouldn't miss a chance to go play bingo, or play a game of cards (she was always ready as she carried a deck in her purse) or to spend time with her family. She was able to take the trip of a lifetime not only once but twice. In 2001 and again in 2011 Perry found herself on a plane to Korea where her son, Tom, his wife, Sookie and son, Jake lived. She enjoyed her trips back to Jamestown and loved to go visiting family and friends. Perry "LOVED" spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and very seldom missed an opportunity to attend any sporting event or activity that came up. Perry had a heart of gold and was always willing to give a helping hand. Her laughter and the chance to "Clown" around will forever be remembered. Her doughnuts and Kringle were approved by many and her Kringle would cause a bidding war at the annual church auction.
Perry is survived by her sons - Steven Loiland of Bagley, MN, Thomas (Ensook "Sookie") Loiland of Dale City, VA, and LuWayne (Jodi) Loiland of Bagley, MN; her daughter - Edith "Edie" (Doug) Kilen of Middle River, MN; her grandchildren - Derek Loiland of Bagley, MN; Lindsy (Danny) Yeung of Bemidji, MN; Jacob (Eleanore) Loiland of California, MD; Jesse Dukek of Bemidji, MN; Cali Dukek of Bemidji, MN, and Jordan (Alexis) Loiland of Bagley, MN; her great grandchildren, Danny, Darren, Quinten, Westin, Alexis, Graham, Jaden, Emma, Leah, Jamesen, Jaxton, Corbynn, Charlotte and Hayden: her bonus grandsons, Bryant, Brett and Baylor; her sister, Joann (Les) Putnam of Montpelier, ND, her sisters-in-law JoAnn (Vernon) Voeltz of Trail, MN, Marlys Perry of Jamestown, ND and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins
She was preceded in death by her parents, Orville and Edith (Scholz) Perry; her siblings, Darrel, Marion, Patricia, and James, great great granddaughter, Annaleigh, her sisters-in-law, Carla and Judy; her brothers-in-law, Ray, Johnny and George and many aunts and uncles.
