Robert "Bob" Martin, age 80, of Fosston, MN, passed away on Thursday, March 14th, at Neilson Place in Bemidji, MN. No services will be held at this time. Arrangements are with Carlin Family Funeral Service of Fosston.
Robert Dale Martin was born on August 30, 1943, in Odessa, Missouri to parents Earl and Jean (Robinett) Martin. He grew up and attended school in Odessa. Bob entered the United States Navy in July of 1962 and served during the Vietnam War, as a ship boilerman.
While living in California, Bob was married to Nona McHorney in 1966. In November of 1966, a daughter, Sheree, was born. Sheree also known as "Sam", always has been, and always will be his "little baby girl".
Bob received his honorable discharge in April of 1970 and moved with his family to the Oklee, Minnesota area. A son, Robert Jr. was born in April of 1971.
He was married to JoAnne Bauer on July 1, 1993. They lived south of McIntosh for many years, before they eventually settled in Fosston where they currently reside.
Bob worked at Land O'Lakes in Fosston and in 1988 he started at the Polk County Incinerator, where he was the Chief Boiler Operator. Bob retired from the Incinerator in 2005. After his retirement, he became self-employed and began "Bob's Sandblasting", of which he operated from their home.
Bob enjoyed working on motors, and did mechanic work in his shop. He liked fishing (especially at Lake of the Woods). After retirement Bob helped care for his mother until she went into the nursing home.
He was willing to help anyone who was in need.
Survivors include his wife of 30 years, JoAnne of Fosston; his daughter "Sam" (Tony) Martin Caradonna of El Cajon, CA; three brothers, John (Bonnie) of Yuma, AZ, Paul (Pam) of Ham Lake, MN, and David (Beth) of Weslaco, TX. Bob also leaves to mourn, his very good friend, Ronald Hanson. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents Earl and Jean; first wife, Nona; his son, Robert Jr.; and brothers, Alvin and Tommy.
