Carol Jean Satterfield, 80, passed away on October, 22, 2023 at her home in Gonvick, Minnesota.
The celebration of life gathering will be on November 4, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at the Gonvick Community Center. Arrangements are with the Cease Family Funeral Home of Bagley.
Carol was born on December 11, 1942, the daughter of Henry and Evelyn (Josephson) Branden. She had 3 siblings: Helen, Russell, and Cheryl. She graduated from Fosston High School in 1960. From then on, she began her many traveling adventures. She got a job at a department store in Des Moines, Iowa where she met and fell in love with Gary Arlaud, who was stationed there in the Navy as a Military Policeman. They were married and welcomed Patrick and Glen into their unity. She followed Gary’s Navy career, living in the Virgin Islands for a short time among other places. Carol and the boys moved back to Minnesota where she worked at the Gonvick Sunflower Plant as a secretary. Then, for a short time, she enjoyed co-owning the CNR Café in Clearbrook with her brother Russell. Carol was a great cook. She had many jobs as a chef in her busy lifetime.
She traveled to Nashville, TN, meeting John Satterfield. They wed and had Karen and Kelly. She eventually moved back to Gonvick to stay. In 1988, Carol decided to pursue her life-long dream of becoming a teacher. She put herself through college and was proudly on the Dean’s List each semester.
Sadly, in 1990, she lost her only daughter, Karen, in a tragic car accident which she never fully recovered from. Later, she worked at a potato farm where she rekindled her friendship with Don Engdahl. He helped her with flea markets and they made many great memories traveling together.
Carol was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a member of Samhold Lutheran Church. Carol loved to have a good time with friends and family. She wrote poetry, played piano and accordion and loved to play all-night Scrabble games. Her fun, loving nature will be missed by many.
Carol is survived by her 3 sons, Patrick (Bren) Arlaud, Glen (Peggy) Arlaud, and Kelly Satterfield, all of Gonvick, MN; her sister, Cheryl (David) Rade of Eugene, OR; her sister-in-law, Linda Branden of Bagley, MN; three grandsons, Gunner (Mandi) Arlaud, Brody Arlaud, and Tyler Anderson; one granddaughter, Mariah Satterfield; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Karen Satterfield; her parents, Henry and Evelyn Branden; her sister, Helen Johnson; her brother, Russell Branden; nephew, Darrell Branden; niece, Cindy Warburton; and her dear friend, Don Engdahl.
