Obituary for Victor Rude

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at the Samhold Lutheran Church in Gonvick, MN with a visitation one hour prior. Interment will be held Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery in Gonvick, MN. The Cease Family Funeral Home of Bagley assisted the family with arrangements. 

He was born in rural Clearbrook, Minnesota in Eddy Township on December 27, 1939. He was the son of Olaf and Anna (Anderson) Rude, one of six children, baptized at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in rural Gonvick, Minnesota. He served in the Army during peace time from December of 1959 until he was honorably discharged in January 1963. After the Army, he began his truck driving career where it brought him to Missoula, Montana. There he met the love of his life, Carolyn Scherer, and they were united in marriage on June 28, 1969. Together they celebrated 53 years of matrimony. He was a loving father of three children, Vivian, Vernon, and Valerie, along with being a loving grandfather to his four granddaughters, Annastasia, Ashley, Monica, and Sarah, along with his great granddaughter, Paisley.

In early years after his children were born, he enjoyed large family camping trips, spending hours with his children and his nieces and nephews. He also enjoyed gardening and mowing his yard, and cutting wood along with deer hunting. In his later years after retiring from trucking, he spent his time wood working and taking his loving wife on trips out West to Montana. He enjoyed watching his granddaughters while their parents worked, and they had numerous sleepovers. On occasion, Victor would even put up a tent in the house to fulfill his granddaughters’ wishes to go camping with grandma and grandpa. He went to numerous events to watch his granddaughters throughout the years, even giving them a ride in his semi-truck before he retired. He was a wonderful father, uncle, and grandfather. He always enjoyed teasing and having fun with all, but would help anyone who needed help without hesitation. His love and kindness will be cherished and missed by all who knew and loved him. 

Victor is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn; his children, Vivian (Martin Lumbreras) Rude, Vernon Rude, and Valerie (Ray) Reichert; his four granddaughters, Annastasia Boyd, Ashley (Dirk Fultz) Reichert, Monica (Daniel) Johnson, and Sarah Reichert; his great granddaughter, Paisley Johnson; his siblings, Norman (Rosie) Rude, Karen (Howard) Sjulestad, Larry Rude, Wendall (Diann) Rude; sister-in-law, Merrylee Payne; and brother-in-law, Mell Scherer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Olaf and Anna Rude; and his sister, Evon Rude.
