Veronica “Vonnie” Snobeck, age, 87 of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota went to be with Jesus on October 16, 2022. She donated her earthly remains to the University of Minnesota Bequest Program, hoping to help find a cure for celiac disease and her rare cancer diagnosis. A Memorial will be held on Friday, November 18, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Detroit Lakes. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the funeral. Veronica will be laid to rest at Salem Lutheran Cemetery, Gully, Minnesota at a later date.
Veronica Edith Ann “Vonnie” Lindberg was born on January 2, 1935, at home in rural Gully, Minnesota to Arthur and Evelyn (Sorenson) Lindberg Hoyum. She attended Lincoln Country School and Fosston High School, graduating with the class of 1952.
On November 28, 1953, Vonnie was united in marriage to Winton “Ray” Snobeck on her parent’s farm near Gully. Their marriage was blessed with two children: Daniel and Suellyn. Together they made their home near Gonvick, Minnesota, and Gully, Minnesota. They spent several years in the Iron Range area before buying a farm by Lengby, Minnesota where Vonnie and Ray farmed and raised their children together. They moved to Warren, Minnesota for several years, where Vonnie began her passion as a home daycare provider. In 1976, they moved to Wadena, Minnesota. She continued providing home daycare and was known by many children as “Grandma Vonnie”.
After spending decades of their married life raising their children and going on vacations with them, when both their children had grown up, Vonnie and Ray continued taking vacations together as a couple. They decided to move to Miles City, Montana where Vonnie enjoyed her time working in a preschool. They later moved back to Minnesota and settled in Detroit Lakes. Vonnie worked at Savoie Dry Cleaners in Detroit Lakes until her retirement. On April 13, 2014, Ray passed away.
Vonnie enjoyed spending time with her family, her church family, and her neighbors and friends. She donated her time to many volunteer organizations within every church she was a member of throughout her life. Vonnie loved to garden, knit, crochet, cook, and bake.
Preceding Vonnie in death are her parents; stepfather: Martin Hoyum; husband: Ray; and brother: John Lindberg.
Vonnie is survived by her children: Daniel (Luvenia) Snobeck of Detroit Lakes; Suellyn (Don Burns) Snobeck of Wadena; five grandchildren: Valerie (Vincent) Cuneo; Jonathon (Ashley) Paulson; Lucas (Adrienne) Snobeck; Jessica (Rachel) Snobeck; and Lydia Burns; four great-grandchildren: Maurice, Theodore, Forest, and Wesley; siblings: Lorna (Ken) Hockert of Thief River Falls; Vicki (Will) Dekkers of Erskine; and Beverlee (Dave) Mountain of Fall Creek, Wisconsin; sister-in-law: Carol Lindberg of Onamia; special caregivers and “adopted neighbor family: Dawn and Jerry Qualley and their children: Lindsey Brekken, Scott Heinecke, Caden, Isak, and Emma Qualley; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Vonnie’s family would like to extend a special thanks to Hospice of the Red River Valley and their wonderful and special nurse, Abbey.
She was a strong woman, and her faith was even stronger, praising God for every day He gave her. Her prayers, joy, and laughter will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends.
