Students attend Young Author Conference

Clearbrook-Gonvick students had a great day at the Young Author Conference in Thief River Falls on Tuesday, March 8. They learned about what it takes to become an author and/or illustrator, tried out some new writing tricks, listened to authors read from their books, and learned about the authors' inspiration for writing their stories. 

Students shined! The authors and illustrators had students do some writing and drawing of their own, and CG students were not shy. They volunteered to share their writing and illustrations with the group! They were well behaved and respectful of the presenters! They also had the opportunity to purchase books and many received the authors' autographs!

Students attended sessions by published Minnesota Authors including Willam Durbin who has written The Broken Blade, Wintering, Blackwater Ben, Song of Sampo Lake, The Darkest Evening, Dead Man’s Rapids, and The Journal of Otto Peltonen., Durbin talked to students about finding their own voice and the importance of expressing themselves. Another favorite writer presenting was Mary Casanova. Casanova's presentation was entitled, "Write about What Haunts You." Students also enjoyed learning about writing movie scenes with Rowan Pope and learning to tell a tall tale with Bob Gasch.  Over 350 students from around the region attended the event.
