Leader-Record Gets New Summer Intern

Autumn Mary Marie Smith is the new summer intern at The Leader-Record. Some of the past interns include Dillan Straabe, Kailee Dyrdahl, Shelby Edevold, and Ryan Horn. Autumn is an intern through the Pohlad Family Foundation Youth Employment Program. Carl Pohlad owner of the Minnesota Twins started the program for junior and senior high school students. The program was started eleven years ago, and is designed to help support newspapers that hire high school age interns over the summer.

Autumn was born in Duluth on a Friday, September 26th 1997. Autumn is the daughter of Crystal and Jessie Smith. Autumn was named because she was born in autumn. Autumn has two middle names one after her cousin Mary and the other after her grandmother Janice. She has an older brother Lawrence and two younger siblings Jazmyn and Keenan "Goob" Smith. Her family is originally from Wisconsin but has lived in Clearbrook for several years.

Autumn enjoys reading, writing, and going to the movies with her friends Savannah Silvestre and Kati Knutson. She enjoys working with kids and playing video games with her little brother. She is also a member of the Leon Ramblers 4-H club and enjoys helping other people.

Autumn is set to graduate next spring from Bagley High School. She hopes to attend college at the University of Minnesota-Duluth and study their Pre-Med program. Autumn would like to become a doctor and work in a children’s hospital helping to care for sick children.
