Services for Lewis Marsh

Lewis Marsh, 89, of Shevlin, Minnesota died on Tuesday, March 2, 2021 at Colleen’s Caring Hands Center in Bemidji, Minnesota, with his wife and family by his side.  

Visitation took place 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, March 5, 2021 at the Cease Family Funeral Home Chapel in Bagley, Minnesota. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 6, 2021 at the Clearwater Lutheran Church in Shevlin, MN. with Pastor Mark Kuleta Officiating. Visitation was 1-hour prior to the service. Interment at the Clearwater Lutheran Cemetery in Shevlin, Minnesota.  Military honors were accorded by the Irvin Blix Post 16 American Legion of Bagley, MN.

Lewis Rauk Marsh was born on August 5, 1931 in Shevlin, MN to August and Lottie (Rauk) Marsh.  Lewis was raised near Shevlin, MN and attended rural schools #47. He farmed for several years with August and Lottie before proudly serving his country during the Korean War with the United States Army from December 16, 1953 to October 19, 1955. Lewis was married to Edna Mittag on May 19, 1956 in Leonard, MN.  Lewis and Edna purchased the home farm in 1961. This May they would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.  Together they raised 5 children; Byron, Kathryn, LouAnn, Carla, and Shelly.  Lewis drove school bus for Bagley Public Schools for 23 years; retiring in 1992.

Lewis enjoyed the Pioneer Farmers, snowmobiling, 4-wheeling, camping, hunting, training and riding horses. Family was especially important to Lewis, who loved spending time on the farm with children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed tractor mechanics, and his Army Reunions.  He was on numerous boards such as; Clearwater County Soil and Water, Shevlin Township and at the Bagley Elevator.  He was a lifelong member of Clearwater Lutheran Church, where he held many offices along with being a Sexton of the Cemetery.  Lewis was a 4-H Leader, and a member of the American Legion.

Shelly (Steve) Ward of Bemidji, MN

Sisters- Mary Waggoner of Shevlin, MN and Molly Hugger of Maplewood, MN

Brother- Dick (Corrine) Marsh of Pengilly, MN

Lewis was the proud Grandfather to 16 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters; 1 brother; and 2 great granddaughters

The Cease Family Funeral Home of Bagley assisted the family with arrangements.
