Bagley 6th graders building birdhouses at Farm by the Lake

On May 27th, the Bagley 6th grade class constructed 71 birdhouses in conjunction with Farm By The Lake.  This project was originally scheduled to celebrate “Earth Day” on April 22, but due to cold, snow, rain and a hectic school schedule of testing and end of the year happenings, this project happened at the school instead of at Farm By The Lake.
Farm By The Lake plans to make this a yearly event with all 6th grade classes in Clearwater County.  Clearbrook was invited this year also, but already had a full schedule and were not able to attend.
Approximately 1 dozen cavity-nesting birds will use boxes with a 1 1/2" entrance hole. These include Tree & Violet-Green Swallows, Bluebirds, Chickadees, Wrens, Nuthatches, and possibly Titmice. - See more at: http://www.birdwatching-bliss.com/bird-house-plans.html#sthash.2fgN0nc9...., the birdhouses are simple in design and were cut out and holes were pre-drilled at Mark Edevold’s house by several members of the current Board, Mark Edevold, Mike Phaller, and Dave Smith.
Farm by The Lake originally was very active with the schools in the area in teaching about the environment, plants and animals. Farm By The Lake would like to invite others classes to come out and use the grounds for teaching and activities.  Farm By The Lake also annually hosts the 1st grade end of the year picnic.
We would like to thank The Northstar Chapter of the Sierra Club, Clearwater Soil and Water District for providing the funding for this project and Hilltop Lumber for a reduced rate for the lumber.
