Music gives flight to the imagination

Mr. Lunsetter directed one of his best music programs yet with the Grygla 6th-12th grade band & choir students putting on a great performance last week. From a South African Praise Song, to a beautiful tribal piece titled “Sisi ni moja” (We are one), the Grygla music students transported the crowd to a place they didn’t want to leave.

Other choral selections included a familiar Beatles hit, some toe-tapping bluesy tunes and an emotional piece called “Inscription of Hope,” which invited you to live and breathe the words of hope written by a people of the not-so-distant past. The words to the song were inscribed on the walls of a cellar in Germany, where Jews were hiding from the Nazis during WWII. Hope was all they had to hold on to; hope was their only bridge to a brighter tomorrow. The Senior High Band ended the night with a concert piece titled “Moscow, 1941.” Various sounds and harmonies captured the audience’s attention while telling a musical story of the Red Army successfully defending Moscow against the German invasion in the Second World War.
