ASEC provides services to RLCC

In 1969, twelve schools in northwest Minnesota joined together to form ASEC which is the Area Special Education Cooperative. The schools include Ada-Borup, Climax-Shelly, East Grand Forks, Fertile-Beltrami, Fisher, Fosston, Norman County West, Red Lake County Central, Red Lake Falls, Stephen-Argyle Central, Warren-Alvarado-Oslo, and Win-E-Mac. This cooperative has allowed these school districts to have specialized services available such as vision consultants, teachers of the hard of hearing/deaf, psychologists, early childhood special education teachers, as well as physical or occupational therapists and more. Several individuals from ASEC come to the RLCC schools in Oklee and Plummer to provide support services to administrators, parents, teachers and students with special needs. One of those is Kris MacGregor.

Kris MacGregor is employed by the ASEC and provides psychologist services to our district. She has a Master’s degree in School Psychology and works with three different school districts which are RLCC, Red Lake Falls and Fosston. She does evaluation for special education eligibility. She also works on different skills with students such as social and emotional skills, self-regulation skills, problem solving skills, and anger management skills. MacGregor does consultations with the staff at the different schools and conducts staff trainings. 

She designs academic and behavior interventions and classroom presentations. MacGregor is a member of different student assistance teams and assists in crisis situations. She also provides families with information about mental health, available services outside of school, and different strategies to deal with mental health at home. 

When she comes to each school, MacGregor doesn’t really have a set plan for the day. She could plan her day out and then have everything change by the time she arrives. She usually meets with students, observes students in the classroom, and meets with the school staff. Her role changes depending on the school and the day. 

MacGregor has worked with students and staff at RLCC for eight years. She is at the RLCC Elementary School for half a day and at the High School for half a day. Her favorite part of her job is working directly with students and she enjoys working in social skills groups the most. 

MacGregor is married and lives in Crookston. She has two daughters in college and a son in high school. Camping, hiking, kayaking, gardening, and reading are her favorite hobbies.
