Red Lake County Central High School recently recognized two students who were selected as Students of the Month for January. They were Marie Johnson and Kya Morinville.
Mrs. Patty Mickelson nominated Marie Johnson as the senior high Student of the Month for January at RLCC. Mrs. Mickelson said Johnson participates in many activities including music and has taken on new challenges every year, trying new things even when it is not the most comfortable position to be in. Mickelson said, “Marie works hard in both school and extra-curricular, even though sometimes it’s not for a grade or a score, but just to improve herself.” Mickelson also commented that Johnson “gives thought to how to voice an opinion before she speaks.”
Johnson is in 12th grade, 18 years old and her parents are Jeff and Pam Johnson along with one sibling Seth Johnson. In school she is involved in band, Knowledge Bowl, Minnesota Honor Society, and basketball. In her free time she likes to spend time with family, cruise around on the gravel roads, and take pictures.
RLCC teacher Ms. Jessie Hamrum nominated seventh grader Kya Morinville for the junior high Student of the Month. Hamrum said Morinville is kind to everyone, greets people politely and makes sure to tell everyone to have a good day. Hamrum also added that Morinville works hard in class and participates in other activities.
Morinville is 13 and in seventh grade. Her family includes her dad Nick, her mom Stephanie and her sister Taya. She is involved in three school activities: basketball, volleyball and track. Things she likes to do for fun are playing with her cat, snowmobiling, being at the farm and riding horse.
