Oath of office given for County offices on January 8th

The Red Lake County Commissioners reorganization meeting was held on January 8, 2019 and was called to order by County Auditor Bob Schmitz. All members that were re-elected were sworn in by the Court Administration Deputy before any further business could be held.

First order of business was nominations for County Commissioner Chairperson. Commissioner Ron Weiss was nominated for Chairperson by Chuck Simpson. Nominations were called for three times, a motion was made by Chuck Flage and seconded by Al Remick, All were in favor. Carried.

Commissioner Ron Weiss, Chairperson of Board took over the meeting. Nominations were called for Vice Chairperson. Simpson nominated Remick for Vice Chairperson, nominations were called for three times, Dudycha made a motion to accept Remick as Vice Chairperson, seconded by Flage, carried. 

Bids for the official newspaper was next on the agenda.

Remick asked the County Attorney the newspapers had to be the legal paper, if the mintues and other things could be on the County website. LaCoursiere said that it is a state statute that the county have an official newspaper, but the items still could be also on the website.

A motion was made by Simpson to accept the bid by the Oklee Herald for the 1st printing of the Financial, Board minutes and Delinquent Tax List, Dudycha seconded, motion carried.

A motion was made by Remick for the Gazette to print the 2nd printing of the Financials,  Dudycha seconded, carried.

The agenda was approved as listed and meeting dates and times were set as the 2nd & 4th Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m. as the official date and times of County Commissioner meetings at the Red Lake County Courthouse.

Tanya Hanson from the Red Lake County Soil, Water Conservation District reported on grant for NW Minnesota that is available yearly and there is a 25% match from Enbridge and will be matched up to $30,000 by the state if the County gives $30,000. Motion by Remick, seconded by Simpson for the County to give $30,000 for the match of this grant.

County Attorney LaCoursiere had an update on the question on how to change the number of board members on a board to a smaller number.  After doing some research, a motion to dissolve  a board must be made and then replace the board with a motion to the different number of members. This was too make it easier to have a quorum for meetings and the board they were discussion was the Human Services board.

A motion was made by Simpson, seconded by Dudycha to dissolve the board of 7 members and replace it with a board of Commissioners which has five members. Carried.
