Sheryll Petterson retires from Northern State Bank
After twenty-six years Sheryll Petterson is calling it quits from Northern State Bank in Gonvick. She said she will really miss all the people that she has met over the years and won’t be able to visit them. She has been working in Gonvick for the last 51 years. When her daughter Chelsey was one and a half years old. She took her out job hunting to Vic Aalbu at the Leader-Record newspaper office in Gonvick. He hired her to do typing and other duties.
After 25 years she decided she needed a change and she took the job at the bank. She started working with Vivian Ricke, Mary Sather and Ardell Maple and during that time there have been many changes in the banking industry.
Sheryll graduated from Clearbrook High School and went on to the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis for one year. She moved back the next year to northern Minnesota and got married to Duane Petterson. They have lived on the farm and raised two children Wendy (Jeff) Basinger and Corey (Stacie) Petterson. Besides working at the bank they had a bus route to the Gonvick-Trail School district and was involved in many activites with their children.
They bought a 1956 Ford from Rungvald Thompson and used it to haul farm items. After a few years it was put back in the woods where old cars are put. A few years ago they thought that it would be worth restoring and now they are members of the Highway 2 Cruisers Club. They enjoy getting together for the rides with the many different people who belong to the club. They will be going down to the Fairgrounds in St. Paul for the Back to the 50’s Car Show June 19-21. Cars have to be from 1964 and older.
Sheryl will have more time for her hobbies of sewing knitting and quilting. She is now finishing a graduation quilt for her grandson Austin. It is make of T-shirts from his life of 4-H, football, DaRoo’s, Summer Theater, Mission trip and livestock shows. She finished it in two days.
She will also have more time for seeing her grandchildren, Chelsey Ehlers, Christoper Basinger, Tanner, Austin and Caleb Petterson and great grandchildren, Morgan and Olivia Basinger, and Aiden and Zoey Ehlers.
