Veterans Day Program held in Oklee

At the Veterans Day Program held in Oklee on Monday, November 12, the speaker was Paula Lundgren. Lundgren was inducted into the Air Force on December 15, 1976. She completed her training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX on February 1977. She completed her Air Traffic Control Radar Repairman in the same year at Keesler AFB, MS until 1980 when she went overseas to Germany until 1982. She next moved to Altus AFB until her discharge in September 1982. She bounced around until she landed in Grand Forks and later retired. She is currently a VA Social Worker in Grand Forks.
Lundgren has earned a total of eight medals and five ribbons. She also earned the Air Force Longevity award and the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award.
She stated that” ‘Troops today continue the make the sacrifice. They follow in the footsteps of the many veterans who have gone to serve our country.” She thanked the vets who were present and asked them to stand for recognition. She also asked for family members of veterans to stand for recognizing the support they gave.
She also mentioned that Armistice Day was started to remember the veterans of the First World War. Later it was changed to Veterans Day. Veterans Day now honors veterans from all wars and everyone that served. “May we never forget.”
