RLCC Music students Compete at Vocal Solo Contest

Red Lake County Central competed in a Vocal Solo Contest at the East Grand Forks High School Wednesday, November 7. Seven students signed up to go: one senior, Phillip Sorenson; four juniors, Jayden Iverson, Sidney Olson, Adrianne Jones, and Abby Walton; and two freshmen, Thomas Benson and Kjerstin Nelson. The students were joined by their music teacher Mrs. Patty Mickelson along with Mrs. Peggy Miller who accompanied them on the piano.
Two students received perfect scores including Walton who sang “Think of Me” by Phantom of Opera and Jones who sang “I’m Not That Girl” from Wicked. One junior, Iverson singing “Caro Mio Ben”, received a superior rating. Four singers received excellent ratings including Olson who sang “I Have a Dream” from Mama Mia, Nelson who sang “My Favorite Things” from the Sound of Music, Benson who sang “Follow the Drinking Gourd”, and Sorenson who sang “Close Every Door.”
Mrs. Mickelson said, “The students had a great day at the contest! Some different judges from those we’ve had in the past did a great job of working with students.” Congratulations to these students.
