RLCC Student Vote 2018

Red Lake County Central was one of almost 280 schools throughout Minnesota that participated in a high school mock election. The election is held to teach young students the power and importance of voting, while also teaching them to do research before making their decision. 

Students are given a mock ballot and they encourage all students to submit a vote. Then a designated teacher will submit all of their schools votes by October 24, 2018. The statewide results will be released on October 30, 2018 so students become aware of who would be our new governing officials as if the vote was real.

Students were encouraged to check out two websites: https://www.mprnews.org/topic/election-2018-issues, and https://myballotmn.sos.state.mn.us/ where they can learn the differences between candidate’s morals, and what they stand for; and so you can view a real ballot based on your county.

The final vote from RLCC students will be included in the next issue of the Mustang Stampede.

 

RLC Closes out at 7-1

Red Lake County would close out the regular season of their 2018 football season with a 34-8 win over Badger-Greenbush-Middle River on Wednesday, October 17.  The win gave the Rebels a 7-1 regular season record heading into play-offs.

The Gators controlled the game early.  RLC would have less than 20 yards in total offense in the first quarter as BGMR led 8-0.

RLC would get their offense rolling with a 16 play and 70 yard drive.  Zach Benson would catch a five yard pass from Derek Peterson and tie the game up at 8-8.

RLC’s Hayden Cardinal would then recover a short Austin Jensen kick-off to give RLC the ball back at the Gator 30 yard line.  Five plays later, Adrien Verbout would score from five yards out and the Rebels had the lead at 14-8.

After a fourth down stop on defense, the Rebels would work the two minute drill to perfection.  A long Peterson run would get the Rebels down into the Red Zone once again with Verbout taking it in from two yards out.  At half RLC led 22-8.

Special teams would start to make their mark once again in the third quarter.  A Jensen block punt would give RLC another short field.  Connor Lambert would capitalize and score from five yards to give RLC a 28-8 lead.

Red Lake County would rush for 257 yards on the night and pass for 45.  Chris Longtin led in rushing with 126 yards.  The Rebel defense would hold the Gators to 103 total yards.

RLC will take their 7-1 record into the play-offs starting Tuesday, October 23rd.

There will be a few upcoming events this October through November at Red Lake County Central High School. 

Friday, November 2nd is the end of the quarter as well as an early out.

Wednesday, November 7th is the Vocal Solo Contest.

Thursday, November 8th and Tuesday, November 13th there will be Parent/Teacher Conferences at the high school. 

Monday, November 12th is the Veteran’s Day program at the high school.

Wednesday, November 14th the North West Division Fall Summit is hosted at the high school.

Thursday, November 15th is Financial Aid Night for the seniors.
