4th annual Fosston Fiber Festival held

The 4th annual Fosston Fiber Festival took place over the weekend of October 6-7, 2018 at the Clearbrook City Hall.  Although the weather outside was cold and damp, the atmosphere inside was warm and jovial.  From opening to closing, the festival was well-attended and many people bought wool fiber, yarns and products to help offset the autumn chill.
Various vendors demonstrated fiber art techniques, like knitting, spinning, weaving, carding and combing of wool and Rilla Nelson of Clearbrook brought out her grandmother’s walking wheel to demonstrate an older form of spinning yarn.  The wheel has been in Rilla’s family for generations and dates from 1815.
The Sustainable Sheep and Fiber Community of Northern Minnesota (SSFC) board of directors prepared soups, bread and bars for sale as a fundraiser for lunch Saturday and volunteers Neil and Linda Nelson served.  Other volunteers included SSFC board members, guest Charlotte Bowersocks of Pennsylvania and Stephen Nelson, who assisted vendors in packing and carrying.
The popular Fashion Show was back and held Saturday at noon. Vendors and fiber artists showed off their wearable fiber art for attendees.  A raffle took place Sunday where participants had opportunity to win prizes that ranged from an elk antler donated by Dennis Engebretson of Engebretson Elk Farm to roving (fiber processed for spinning) donated by Karen Stormo of Avalon Farm.
The SSFC would like to thank everyone who came out to support their local farmers and fiber artists and especially those who volunteered their time and talents to help make this event possible.  More information about upcoming events at sheepcommunity.com or fosstonfiberfestival.com.  Fosston Fiber Festival is on Facebook as well.
